Isabelle's POV
I had begun to accept that Prince Standard was my fiancée when, while walking down a hallway I could hear a huge commotion at the front gate of the palace.
I looked out of a nearby window, peering through the glass to the now snowy exterior. It took a moment to see, then understand what was going on.
I could see guards rushing around as they yelled for someone to open the thick iron and oak wood gate. I saw the huge door opening with a long and loud creak. I watched as several armor-clad people (some on horses) , carrying the crests of either Kūmarr or of the center city, Liaon.
My heart skipped a beat, it didn't make sense! Why were they here? These soldiers were supposed to be out at the battle of the fortress Safin!
I rushed down the hallways, down stairs, and through rooms to make it to the grand entrance of the castle. When I finally made it to the ginormous reception room.
There was one of the soldiers, who looked like... Count Mountgorrey, an advisor of my father's. He was looking frantically around, his eyes searching for something, or someone. His lips were forming words I couldn't hear, and I rushed forward to try to figure out the situation. The count suddenly spotted me, and relief washed over his face, before it was changed to horror, then sorrow.
What was going on?
''Your highness'' The Count began bowing,
''What's going on?!'' I demanded, terrified.
''The king...''
I froze, praying to every Alantian god and goddess I could think of that he didn't mean what I thought he meant, Kovei, Steath, Lunarix, Felicity...
''He didn't make it''
It happened, I could practically hear my damaged world tearing apart, I barely registered when he said 'I'm sorry for your loss', I barely registered how I turned around and fled to my room.
The only thing I could think of was 'he died' as tears blurred her vision 'He left me just like Christopher did'
