I wake up with a pounding headache, groaning out loud. "Sophie! Are you okay? You faded on the way back here and just passed out, you haven't responded to anything." All of Edaline's words come out in a jumble. "I'm fine, mum. But what time is it?" Knowing that it was a Neverseen member who wants me to meet up, I can't be too sure that they won't hurt my friends if I don't show.
"It's 6:30, you woke up in time for dinner. And why in the world are you faded? It was a simple shopping trip, how did you get hurt?" I rub my eyes, I try my best not to lie to my parents, so I answer truthfully. "I thought I saw someone and I was jumpy as we were leaving. I wasn't focused as we leaped away."
Edaline looks like she wants to ask more, but Grady comes to my rescue. "Hey, Kiddo, hurry up and get ready for dinner, you must be hungry." I smile, "Coming! I'll be right down mum, go join him downstairs." She gives me that mother look, but relents and heads out, smiling as she walks past the door frame. "Just because it's dinner, don't think you don't owe us an explanation."
"Of course not." I say sarcastically, as soon as she's out I sink down and think of a good lie. I don't like lying to them, but it's for the best, I don't want to make them worry. What makes it worse is in five hours I have to meet Neverseen members and create bigger lies if I'm caught out. Good thing the meetings scheduled during the dead of night.
I change out of the dress, find my ipod, play music, and head into a steaming hot shower to help clear my head. In the shower I just let the water hit me, not scrubbing just yet, enjoying the blissful heat. "Dancing on the hood in the middle of the woods," I've always found it funny that when people sing all accents go away unless they try really hard to keep it.
"On an old mustang, where we sang," I open the shampoo bottle and wash my hair, it's a lychee scent as does the conditioner. "Songs with all our childhood friends," Scrubbing my scalp and brushing out the tangles, "And it went like this, say," Singing the rest of the song and rinsing out the shampoo, then I condition my hair and leave it in. I have a vanilla and blackberry form body scrub, the smell of lychee, blackberry, and vanilla is so good together.
When I'm done I get dressed and head downstairs, shock holds me in place as I see Sandor in the room though. "Sandor!" Then I rush up to him and hug him. "I thought you resigned, Grizel's pregnant is she not?" He gives me a grim look, but it shows he cares, "It's good to see you too Miss Foster, and yes, Grizel is pregnant but she gave me her blessing to be here with you. I heard that someone was bothering you."
Well news traveled quickly, I look over to Grady and Edaline who don't look bothered in the least to have bothered Sandor. "It could have been a mistake guys, I really just could be jumping to conclusions. They have been gone for two years, since...since. Since Keefe left. Plus I'm eighteen now, I can look after myself, and we have the other guards still posted here in case anything bad happens. I'd rather Sandor not be separated from his family for something that might not even be."
I'm about to say more, but Sandor glares at me. "If there is any chance that the Neverseen are still after you, they will have to go through me first. I am not leaving you again Miss Foster, not like the others." I can't help but give him a small smile despite not wanting to relent so easily. "It'll be good to have you back then, but if you so much as get yourself killed, I will kill myself and kill you in the afterlife. Then Grizel will kill me in the afterlife and I will get to kill you again in another lifetime."
This makes everyone laugh, but all I can think is, great, sneaking out will be near impossible now. Edaline makes a move to the kitchen, "Now that you're here let's eat, you're welcome to join us if you want Sandor, I made extra for you." He gives a smile to her, "I'd love to, but I just ate dinner, Grizel made a tomato pasta thing that humans love." This calls my attention.
"Grizel made you spaghetti?" I can't help but swoon, Italian food is romantic food, as if he can read my thoughts, "Don't even think about it Miss Foster." I give him my most innocent look, "That is a reason I regret coming back," He says playfully and I do a mock gesture that Keefe often did. I cover my chest with my hand, "Wow, just wow. It hurts me that you feel so."
After laughing a bit more, Sandor stations himself outside the dining room as we eat, but I'm not hungry. It's only four hours till I have to meet with the threat I basically told my family was non existent. "Sophie? Are you okay? You haven't touched your food, I made the one you liked, the one you said tasted like fettuccine." I give her a fake smile that I know she can't see past.
"It's fine mum, I'm just not feeling well. It's probably from fading, no need to get Elwin though, I'll just sleep it off." She looks sad for a bit, "Okay then, I'll send the food up to your room just in case you get hungry." I gave her a real smile this time, "Thank you mum, I appreciate it." Walking to my room Sandor just follows so I assume he heard our conversation, "Sleep well Miss Foster, see you in the morning."
I give another fake smile, if I make it out alive that is. "See you too," In the room I set a timer that Dex made for me, it makes a frequency that only I can hear. It's a great invention really, he made it so that when we all wanted to do something that our parents didn't approve of we could sleep to make them think. And it works real well, I thought it was similar to a dog whistle and he told me that's what he based it off of.
What amazes me the most is that it truly won't wake up anyone but me. We used our goblin bodyguards as test subjects before we used the real thing, and they can't hear it. I pick out all black clothing, set the timer for 11:15 and hide all the necessary things so that Grady and Edaline don't find it when they come to check on me later. It's a real sound plan, I hope I don't find a way to mess it up like always.
Soon enough I fell asleep and mentally prepared myself for the meeting with the man that is probably my father. I'm not as dumb and naive as I was years ago, I've changed and yet so many people don't notice it. How stupid are they, it feels like I'm losing track of the past, present, and future, I'm losing it and no one knows. Sometimes it seems that I stop time itself and it's driving me insane.

"How could you Edyn, we--I trusted you! How could you do this to us?"
"And you never should have done that, love, that was your one mistake, loving me. My stupid brother as well, we weren't supposed to, but we both fell in love and it's making us weak. I'm no longer weak, my brother is though and that's why Sophie's cousins will be as well. That's why I'm leaving his sorry arse here."
"Edyn, please think this through--,"
"Oh cream it already. I was in love once, and it wasn't you, your daughter is going to be weak so that's why she's staying here. When she's older, give her my regards, she wasn't even supposed to have been born."
"What about Gemma? She can't just leave, she's not like you, the jump will kill her. And what about Gethan and the baby?"
"It kills the weak, and Gemma is anything but weak. You, however are, F..."
