on your way, you muttered, "the coordinates seem too familiar... don't you think so, girl?" your dragon released a low growl in agreement, her eyes scanning the surroundings.
as you approached the location the wizard king had designated for your stay, you couldn't shake the feeling of déjà vu. you were puzzled by how the wizard king had been so certain the place would be perfect for your dragon, but you decided to push that thought aside.
"look at that tree," you said, pointing ahead. "isn't that—" you stopped mid-sentence, your eyes widening as your dragon landed in the exact spot where she had the previous night. you groaned in frustration. "why in the—"
your grumbling was abruptly interrupted by a familiar, soothing voice.
"m'lady? what brings you here?" the voice was unmistakable, you froze.
'i just wanted rest. is that so much to ask?' you thought, not expecting to need to put up with another battle, you slowly face the masked man who looked just as puzzled as you are.
"ah, nothing vangeance, i just happened to pass by and—" a loud roar interrupted, and your dragon leaped onto the captain, catching both of you off guard.
"o-oi! frost, what are—" you stared in shock as your dragon grinned, her sharp yet cute teeth visible as she bit into a clear bottle of milk from a box the captain has been holding.
the startled captain slowly stood up, laughing awkwardly. "wha—what was that for, dragon..." he muttered, his mana radiating a mix of fear and excitement.
"apologies, sir vangeance, but—" you quickly pulled your dragon away to a respectful distance.
"frost! don't just jump on people like that, it's rude!" you whispered fiercely, but your dragon only rolled her eyes before darting back to william excitedly, as if expecting his approval for her to have what he's holding.
you released a groan as you composed yourself. 'no sudden decisions or words, keep calm and collected, you got this y/n,' you thought, trying to comfort yourself.
"i'm sorry for the trouble, captain vangeance. but we were just on our way—"
"i heard from the wizard king that your dragon has specific needs when it comes to sleeping arrangements," the captain interrupted, his tone polite but firm. "i know that vangeance manor's temperature is quite similar to that of a mountaintop, which might be ideal for her. you're welcome to stay; i have more than enough rooms to accommodate you. and it seems your dragon has taken a liking to my milk supplies," he continued with a slight chuckle.
"no, i really must apologize for intruding again. we've already overstayed our welcome—" you started to climb back onto your dragon, but she resisted and ran back to william, who was picking up the bottle she had dropped earlier.
with an affectionate smile, william opened the bottle and placed it where your dragon could easily reach it. for a moment, you watched his gentle actions with your dragon—a reflection of your own care—and noticed how your dragon seemed to relax in his presence.
"it looks like frost has made the decision for you, m'lady," william said, his smile warm and reassuring.
your eyes met his, and his kindness made your heart flutter. you nodded in agreement, feeling a sense of relief and acceptance.
'if frost can trust this man, then maybe it wouldn't hurt for me to open up a little as well,' you thought.
with a sigh, you respond with a smile, "thank you for your kindness, captain vangeance. if it's not too much trouble, we'll gladly accept your offer."
william's smile widened, and he gestured toward the manor. "please, follow me. i'll show you to the rooms where you'll be comfortable. and don't worry about the intrusion—it's always a pleasure to host."
your dragon growled eagerly and tugged on the captain's robe, leading him towards the mansion's entrance.
you'd never seen your dragon act so recklessly before; she was always protective, especially around new people. it took queen lolopechka a whole year to earn her trust. and yet here she was, dragging the captain along just because he her favorite dessert.
you knew frost's obsession with cold milk was strong, but this was unprecedented. in all of the years of your companionship, you'd never seen her behave like this.
"alright, alright! i'm coming. you can let go of my squad robe now, lovely creature," william's chuckles echoed in your head, pulling you back to reality.
"frost, let go. we need to find you a proper place to sleep," you said firmly. you were aware that frost wasn't fond of a stern tone, but her behavior was leaving you perplexed.
your dragon stared at you in further disbelief before reluctantly letting go of the captain's robe. then she ran straight for the door, banging her head against it that it swung open.
you watched, stunned, your mouth slightly agape in shock.
william chuckled at both frost's unexpected behavior and your astonished reaction. "i suppose we should follow her lead," he said with a light-hearted remark, clearly amused and reassuring you that he was perfectly fine with the dragon's antics.
'will he stop?! stop beating so erratically, you stupid heart! and what on earth is that dragon doing, acting like she owns the place?! i think the doorknob is broken!' you thought frantically.
defeated, you could only nod and follow them inside. witnessing your cherished dragon defy you left you with no choice but to comply.
your dragon jumped with such enthusiasm that her eyes sparkled with an almost explosive joy.
'i'll make you pay for this, you mischievous dragon,' you thought, already planning to withhold her beloved milk as punishment. though, you worried that, during your stay, it might not be you providing it, but rather the man who owned this mansion.
yet, despite your frustrations, there was a warm flicker of happiness within you. seeing this new, joyful side of your dragon reminded you of the simple pleasures you'd been missing amidst all the chaos and missions.
you were determined to keep those sparkles of joy alive, to shield her from the burdens you carried. she would not suffer the same dark fate you endured. never.
