"Rogers?" Fury glares at Steve, obviously not excited that he's here. "Well, this is a surprise." Fury's greeting is dripping with sarcasm.
From inside the house, a voice calls out. "Nick? Is that Y/N? Hi, honey."
"Hey mom." You plaster a smile on your face and walk over to her giving her a big hug.
"Y/N, honey, it's so good to have you tonight. Oh, who's your friend? " Your mom gets her first look at Steve and gives you a side smile.
"Mom, this is Steve Rogers."
Steve steps forward and extends his hand. "Hello ma'am. It's nice to meet you." He turned on the full Captain America charm and your mom actually blushed. Thankfully you were slightly behind her so she didn't see you roll your eyes.
"Oh please call me Maggie. Y/N can you help me finish in the kitchen? Nick, no shop talk now." Without hesitating to see if you agreed, your Mom winked at Fury and walks into the kitchen and you follow her out.
Fury watches them leave before turning to Steve, glaring at him. "What the hell are you doing here Rogers?"
"Honestly, I'm starting to feel like an idiot. I'm assuming you're dating her mom." Steve sighs and runs his hand through his hair.
Fury's quiet for a minute and then lifts an eyebrow. "We're involved."
"Look, I'm sorry. Ever since y/n showed up I've had a weird feeling about her. Then a few weeks ago she wouldn't look at you during the meeting and she was acting weird around you. Then today I overheard you planning a meeting. I wanted to see what was up. I really never thought it could be this."
Fury stares at Steve in disbelief. "Rogers, do you know how crazy you sound?
"Yea, I'm starting to. I can leave if you want me to." Steve starts to move toward the door.
Fury sighs. "If you leave Maggie will want an explanation and I don't really want her to know that the place I got her daughter a job is full of crazy people that are stalking her. If you do something this stupid again, I'll deal with you personally. You don't happen to think the 'weird' feeling you got was ... attraction do you?"
Steve starts to answer but Fury cuts him off. "Rogers, that was a rhetorical question. I do not want to know! But if you do like her you're going to have to grovel now. That girl is pissed."
*In the kitchen*
"This is the first time you've ever brought someone home. Is it serious?" Your mom asks without looking up from cutting veggies.
You knew this is why she wanted your help. Normally, she'd tell you to get out of her kitchen. "No mom. He's just a... friend from work. It was very ... last minute. I'm sorry for not letting you know in advance."
"I'm not at all concerned with not knowing he was coming, you know I always make more than enough to feed everyone. Y/N, just remember to be careful with workplace romances." She gives you a knowing smile.
You snort. You're fuming at Steve but know you can't tell your mom the whole truth without her freaking out. "Mom, it's nothing at ALL like that."
"Y/N, he's a very handsome man and Captain America. Even though you work with him, no one, including me, would blame you for dating that man."
"Mom, really there is nothing between us."
"Mmhhmm" she said while giving you a look that says she clearly does not believe you.
"Mom...."
Before you can respond your mom calls out to the guys in the other room. "Nick, honey, dinners ready."
