You and Erin are sitting next to each other on her bed. You've been talking for a while, occasionally falling into comfortable silence. You have been catching up with each other. Talking only as sisters can, switching between memories of the past and current goings on.
Erin breaks a quiet moment, sadly asking, "Tell me about mom. It's been so long that I can't remember what she looks like."
You reach out and take her hand. "She has the same dark brown colored hair you do and bright blue eyes like mine. She's funny and kind. She will always speak her mind and never takes crap from anyone. She also likes to push people to be better and do good." Your voice catches. "Just before I got grabbed, she had just given my boyfriend a hard time and put him on the spot. Most people wouldn't do that because he can be scary and has a...rough past but not mom. She gave him 'the mom look' and gave him crap the first time she met him."
Erin giggles with you and then gets quiet. "Brock said that your friends would come get you out. Do you think they will?"
You turn toward her. "Absolutely. But, Erin, if we had known you were alive, our step dad wouldn't have stopped until you were home. He works for... well... a government agency that is secret to most people. If there had been even an inkling that you were alive, he wouldn't have stopped searching until he found you and then destroyed anyone that stood in his way. When they figure out where we are, nothing will stop them until we're home."
Erin smiles a sad smile, you can tell she doesn't fully believe you, but she nods. She changes the subject and you let her. "You said you have a boyfriend, what's he like?"
You smile, "He's quiet and kind. Some bad people did experiments on him, so he's faster and stronger than a regular person but he's got such a good heart and just wants to do and be better. He's also sexy as sin."
Erin looked down at her hands. "He used to make me watch them do experiments on people. He said if I didn't behave, they'd do that to me."
You wrap your arm around her. "Erin, as soon as we get out of here, no one will ever hurt you again." You try to think of something to change the subject. "You mentioned someone named Brock, who's he?"
"He's the guard that takes care of me. He took over awhile ago, I think it might have been years ago when Ray left. I don't really know. Dad leaves a lot, sometimes for long periods, and takes almost all the guards with him. So, he'd leave me with Ray and then Brock. Ray was with me at the very beginning. Ray didn't like dad but stayed to try and help me if he could. When dad was gone Ray would teach me, like school. Ray picked Brock to take over because Ray knew Brock would keep protecting me the best he could. Like when some of the guards wanted to ... um... be with me, Brock put a stop to it saying I was his. After he did that, he would... well, um... you know. If he didn't they would have thought it was weird. So..."
Erin let the sentence hang in the air. You were horrified for her. Erin seemed to think all of this was normal. You realize for her it was and that she was going to need a lot of help and therapy once you got her out. Suddenly, you heard a series of loud explosions.
You and Erin ducked off the bed. "Quick, over here." You pulled Erin into the corner where the bed met the wall to hide and keep safe from flying objects, if any came in.
