VIBING WITH A MENTAL ILLNESS
"It's snowing." Langa beamed. You looked around, taking in the white snow falling from the sky and onto the covered pavement. A small laugh escaped your lips, slowly becoming louder.
Reki looked terrified of your reaction. "Uh...heh...you alright over there?" He asked hesitantly.
"It's snowing, Reki!" Langa repeated. Reki nodded his head once more. He was going to ask another question about your sanity but once he saw the sparks in your and Langa's eyes he knew to simply enjoy the moment.
"Just be glad we're not in Quebec." You laughed and Reki looked at you quizzically. He walked over to you, passing Langa who was still mesmerized by the white and fluffy snow."What do you mean?" He asked and you turned your attention to him.
Holding out your hand to about 6 feet above the ground you spoke. "I've had to dig my car out while there we snow this high."
"SERIOUSLY?!" Reki shrieked. He whipped his head around to the unlocked car that he was about to go into. "Is that going to happen here?!"
"It's never happened to me," Langa added and Reki let out a breath of relief.
Looking over the snow once more, a small part of you felt like it was cracking. Maybe not cracking... it had always been there. It was just making itself known. So much of this reminded you of your life only a few years ago.
Langa's reaction was identical to that of your sisters' the first time she played in the snow. You both were forced to dig up the snow but she took advantage of the weather and never failed to bring a smile to your face.
You looked over to Reki who was now throwing snowballs at Langa. A small smile tugged at your lips as you imagined them as you and your sister. "Are we going or what?" You asked. Their heads simultaneously popped up and tilted to the side. "Beavertails?"
"OH YEAH! THE CANADIAN RITUAL—"
"It's not a ritual!"
"You expect me to believe that?"
The entire drive over was full of Reki's ideas of what the mysterious Beavertail could be. Even though Langa thoroughly explained it to the redhead he refused to believe it.
That was until you placed a large piece of dough in front of him. Langa found a small water fountain near the shop that was full of pennies. The same fountain he used go to throw pennies in and make wishes with his father.
"Woah..." Reki gaped.
"Cool, right?" Langa laughed lightly when Reki nodded enthusiastically. Just as when you all visited Tim Hortons, he devoured the baked treat within a couple of minutes of receiving it.
"Jeez." You sighed. "You might wanna try breathing now, Reki."
"Never."
You rolled your eyes and diverted your attention to Langa. "Still as good as you remember?"
"Definitely." He confirmed and you smiled. "What about you, y/n?"
"It's still pretty good. I've gotten this same order for years and it never disappoints." You explained. Langa leaned forward in his seat to get a closer look at which one you ordered.
"Is that the plain one with sugar and lemon?" He asked and you nodded. "Oh. I've never eaten that one."
"Wanna try?" Your question caught him off guard.
"...Can I?" He whispered. The truth was, he had tried it. Once. It was the only time his father let him try it after one of their snowboarding trips. The taste brought back a flurry (no pun intended) of memories. "Thanks, y/n." He smiled softly.
"Uh...yeah. No problem? I just gave you a bite I mean it wasn't a big deal—"
"I wanna try!" Reki exclaimed and before you knew it he was already pulling on the plate.
"What the fuck - no!"
"C'mon, please!"
"Fuck off, Reki!" You grabbed the plate out of his hands and narrowed your eyes protectively.
"So mean." He whined.
"Try that again and you lose your finger."◤◢◣◥◤◢◣◥◤◢◣◥◤◢◣◥
"I'm tired!" Reki whined. Langa suggested that you all take a walk around. You accepted, knowing that it was most likely that he wanted to go around a familiar area.
"Yeah, cuz you fucking ate my beavertail!" You shouted, dragging your feet through the accumulating snow.
"You ate mine too." Langa pouted and Reki groaned louder.
"Guilt doesn't go well with stomach problems, guys!" Reki suddenly gave up walking and decided to let himself fall backward into the white fluff. "Just let the snow take me!"
You and Langa exchanged a look. The look to be exact. Not an "I'm gonna kick his ass" look. No... it was more of a look that they had each shared with other people as a child.
It was timeto make some snow angels.
