Maybe it's just me, but this Tyler that I don't know anything about yet, has something strange. I would like to say different, but I'm not sure yet.
He looks at me as if he were reading something on my forehead, he started doing it in the pizzeria and continues now, showing no interest in all the noise in this place. His interest seems to be me, and it never happened to me. Lucia, Sonia and Leonardo himself, who hangs from his lips, don't seem to reach him with words. Whatever the talk, he makes sure he understands what I think.
From my side, however, the only thing I understood is that he lives in the same town as Lucia, whom he seems to love truly, and that thanks to his friendship with her he met Leonardo. For the rest, I can't even understand what his thoughts are about the things being said.
He's a handsome boy, but looking at him, aesthetics take a back seat. Curiosity leads to observe him.
«Tyler, you're coming right?» asks Leonardo drawing his attention.
«Where?»
As I imagined. He wasn't following the conversation. Now that I think about it, I don't even know what they're talking about.
«What? I've been talking about this for ten minutes. At the cinema tomorrow.»
«Ah yes, that's fine.»
«Aurora, you?»
Luckily he asked him first.
«Yup.»
«Do you like the genre?»
Lucia and Sonia look at me smiling. They must have realized that I wasn't fully present.
«Leonardo forgive me, what movie should we watch?» Tyler asks, relieving me of the embarrassment.
«Ted 2.»
«Perfect, so a comedy. Sometimes you need a lowbrow movie.»
«He only watches dramas» Lucia says, turning to everyone, but continuing to look at me.
«No come on, sometimes I watch something light.»
They dive into a conversation about movies, and for the first time he shows interest in the conversation. This makes me understand his great passion for cinema.
Once again I think of Luisa, and I would like to thank her because thanks to her I can have my say.
«Aurora, what's your favorite movie?» Tyler asks me.
«I absolutely can't tell you, but a few years ago a friend of mine showed me "The Painted Veil", and I think it's one of my favorites.»
His face lights up.
«That movie is unique. According to many it's very slow, but I find it poetic and capable of deeply shaking those who look at it. Perhaps, except for my family, I don't know anyone who has seen it.»
«What's the movie about?» asks Leonardo.
I bet he'll say he wants to watch it.
«It's about a man who, after discovering that his wife is cheating on him, takes her with him to a village where a cholera epidemic is underway. Keep in mind that the story takes place in the early twentieth century, that he goes there as a volunteer, and that he would have asked for a divorce for adultery if she hadn't gone. There was also another way out, but I won't tell you about it because, in my opinion, it's better don't know too much before watching a movie.»
«It looks nice, I'll watch it.»
«Are your family members fond of movies too?» I ask Tyler, connecting with what he said.
«Yup. In short, me, my mother and my sister. Not so much my father, at least since he no longer lives with us.»
«I think it's nice to watch movies all together. It doesn't happen in my house. Is your sister older or younger?»
I avoid asking if the parents are divorced. I think it was understood, and above all, I hate when someone asks it directly. Even if a person doesn't have problems talking about it, I always prefer to move on tiptoe on certain issues.
«Older. You have brothers or sisters?»
«No, I'm an only child.»
We say no more, we just smile.
The others are back to make small talk, and I isolate myself.
This guy intrigues me.
