Steve's POV

After debating with Faye, she finally agrees to let me stay with her in her hospital room. I don't know what it is, but I feel a gravitational pull towards her. It's like the world is screaming at me, but I can't make out what it's saying. As I walk out of her room, her eyelids start to get heavy and she slowly drifts away to sleep. She must be so exhausted. She did a lot of traveling today.

I make my way down to the residence floor and catch everyone at the kitchen, minus Tony. He must have gone to his floor. I think Pepper is back in town. Everyone turns towards me as I get closer to them.

"Cap, how's she doing?" Grace hurriedly asks. I can read all of their emotions on the faces: stressed, worried, sad. I place a hand on her shoulder and give her a soft look.

"She's going to be okay. Dr. Cho is going to get to her when he can. In the meantime, I'm going to change and go back to her room. But, she's not allowing any visitors just yet," I say to the entire group. Her family lets out a sigh of relief. I guess they're not upset that they can't visit her yet. I wonder if that's a normal thing for them.

"Steve, you have lots of explaining to do," Wilson yells from across the room. I say my goodbyes to Faye's family and walk towards the 4 men. I can tell they're confused, but I'm just as confused as them.

"I don't know much either. All I know is that Faye is the infamous LC and that she's family with these goons," I tell the men.

"AGAIN, WHY IS EVERYONE CALLING US GOONS?!" Sam yells and the entire room bursts out laughing. I can't help but join in.

"Faye gave us permission to read her file. Tony said FRIDAY has it uploaded and it's ready for us," says Clint. I become a little tense and they notice. From what I heard, Faye didn't have the easiest childhood. She really fought to become the person she is today. But, that's all I know.

"Thank you," I reply back and make my way to my room. I take off my dress shoes and look for something more comfortable to wear. I take a quick shower, get dressed, and sit on my bed.

"FRIDAY, open Faye's file please," I ask.

"Right away, Captain," she replies. 5 different files pop up in front of me. The one to the furthest left is labeled CHILD, the second file is labeled PRE-TEEN, the third one labeled TEENAGER, the fourth one labeled YOUNG ADULT, and the last file labeled PRESENT. I decide it's probably best to start from beginning to now. I check the clock and notice that it's around 1 a.m. I have to speed read through these and make sure to be back in her room before Faye wakes up.

I open the first file and my face drops. I wasn't expecting to feel my heart physically hurt with the first file... What more was to come with rest?

After about an hour-ish of reading her file, I ask FRIDAY to put the files away. I'm in complete shock. To say Faye is a warrior is an understatement. She's been through so much heartbreak that could last for lifetimes. I fall back onto my bed and stare at the ceiling.

How could someone do this to her?

She seems like a great person, and I've only known her for less than a day. Through the abuse, pain, sorrow, and whatever negative word I could think of, Faye manages to put on a smile, even when she was shot.

That's a whole ass woman, I think to myself. I shake myself out of my head and make my way back to the infirmary. Faye is still sleeping, with her mouth open a tiny bit. She looks adorable. She must be in a lot of pain. I walk up to her and place my hand on her cheek while running my thumb down her face. She mumbles something, but I can't hear what she says. I make my way to the cot and cover myself with the blanket the nurse left for me.

Around 4:30, I hear Faye wince. I immediately wake up and run to her side. I think she was trying to roll over, but she didn't realize how tiny the space was between her and the railing of the bed. She holds her side while my hand reaches out for her face once again. The moment is interrupted when Dr. Cho knocks on the door. It's time for the bullet Faye took for me to come out.

She saved me.

She asked if I could stay and without hesitation, I nod. I make my way to her right side and grab her hand with mine. I lay my other hand on her face, caressing the beautiful features. Dark brown eyes, but they become light brown in the sun, long, black straight hair, and a couple of moles on her face. The nurses load her up with a ton of drugs and I could tell she's flooded with fatigue as her eyelids become heavy. She winces when Dr. Cho cuts into her, but then relaxes not too long after. Thank God the drugs kicked in. I can't bear to see her in any more pain.

The procedure goes on for a while and Faye knocks out from the pain and drugs. She's still holding onto my hand and my hand is still on her cheek. I run my thumb against her cheek again. She lets out a small smile in her sleep, which causes me to let out a smile.

After about 2 hours, Dr. Cho leaves the room and comes back right as Faye wakes up. He said she could either spend the night here again, or day in this case, or rest in her own room.

"May you please get a wheelchair so that Captain Rogers can take me back to my room?" as she turns to Dr. Cho. A nurse leaves the room to find one, while I help Faye sit up. She's having a hard time sitting up, but I expected that.

"Cart me away Captain, my den awaits!" LC exclaims and lets out a giggle. I think that's when she realizes how drugged up she is.

She gets into the wheelchair and she calls for Dr. Cho right before we head to the elevator.

"You're lucky you're one of the good ones, Doc!"

"No, Faye, you are." The doctor replies back. I can't help but smile. The elevator doors open and we make our way to the residence floor. She giggles again when she presses the button.

"How are you doing, doll?" I ask. She turns her head towards me and looks up and makes a pouty face.

"You're very tall and I don't appreciate it. How am I supposed to look at you without hurting my neck? I already got shot!" She says and tries to not laugh while doing so. I look down at her, brush the hair out of her face, and plant a soft kiss. She instantly turns red, which means I did my job correctly.

"That's more like it," she says. She's a very funny woman, I'll give her that. Her expression changes when she sees everyone flood the room.

She's not going to be very happy after this.

After yelling at everyone, again, she signals me to take her to her room. I carry her to her bed and tuck her in. I figured she would want some alone time.

"Thank you, Cap."

"Goodnight, Faye. I'll be here when you wake up." I leave another kiss on her forehead and walk away. I turn back to her one more time and I see her smiling at me before her eyelids drooped.

What is going on with me?
