Steve's POV
I shut LC's door and make my way back to the residence lounge. Everyone is still there, bickering among themselves. They don't see me approach them, therefore, I slightly raise my voice to get their attention.
"HEY! Everyone needs to take it down a notch. Faye is resting right down the hall," I assert my dominance over them. They all turn to me and their faces go blank.
"How's your girlfriend doing, Steve?" asks Rhodey. Faye's family turns to me and I can see their hands forming into fists.
"Woah, woah, calm down. She's not my girlfriend. Second, she's doing just fine. Dr. Cho said she'll be back to normal in 5-6 hours. You should all thank him. He's a miracle worker," I reply back as calmly as I can. Faye's family relaxes, but Tony being Tony can't help but laugh at the sight. If it were the 4 of them against me, I would be dead meat in under a minute. They're not the type of people you want to mess with.
"You know, Capsicle and LC being together isn't a bad thing guys. They can be the new power couple! Maybe they can chill in ice." Tony exclaims. I never expected to hear that from him. Faye is like his daughter. He's been with her for almost as long as Nat has been friends with Faye. I send him a confusing look and he laughs.
"Okay okay, everyone needs to relax. Faye will be awake in a couple of hours, so we should all get some work done before she does. And Tony?" Nat says. "Stop messing with Steve like that. You know he blushes when we talk about someone special to him." I can't help but laugh and blush at her statement. She's not wrong, of course. I just tend to care about things heavily.
Everyone disperses and goes on their assignments for the day. I check the clock to see it's around 9 in the morning. I haven't gotten much sleep either, so I head to my room to take a power nap. Once my head lands on the pillow, I instantly fall asleep.
I wake up around 2 with the sun beaming into my room. I hope I didn't sleep too long before LC wakes up. I get up and head to my bathroom to freshen up before going back to Faye's room. I lightly knock on her door, but hear no response. I slowly open the door and close it lightly. I walk over to her bed, and unsurprisingly, she's still sleeping. She has her body wrapped around her body pillow and holds a stuffed toy close to her chest. The highest commanding officer in this entire building is holding a teddy bear in her sleep. My heart melts at the sight and I cover her body with the blanket again. Not wanting to wake her up, I sit on her desk chair and ask FRIDAY to play a movie. She turns on a movie, but I can't help but watch LC while she sleeps. She gives me this feeling that I can't describe...
She makes me feel like I'm home.
I smile at the thought, and right on cue, I see her body shift. She rubs her eyes and stares around the room. Her brown eyes meet mine and a smile escapes from her beautiful lips.
"Good morning, or afternoon in this case," I say and make my way towards her bed. She moves around so that I can lay next to her. I lay next to her and she places herself closer to me and gathers me in a hug. She seems so relaxed, so I put my arm around her.
"I hope you don't mind me doing this, Cap," she says. I laugh and bring my free hand to her face. I move her face to look at me and run my thumb down her cheek. I felt the need to kiss her again, which I cave in and do. Something tells me she really likes.
"Not at all," I reply back as her head falls back onto my chest. We sit there for a couple of minutes before we say anything. I just wanted to take in the moment. We've come a long way from the bar, despite that that was not even 24 hours ago.
"Thank you," I say underneath my breath. "No one has ever taken a bullet for me." She rubs her hand against my chest, which feels so great. It's a soft touch, yet she has a great handle. She knows what she's doing.
"Captain, this is my team. I call the shots, so if I need to get shot to save one of my team members, I will do it without hesitation. I would do this all over again if that means I get to save you," she says. I can't help but blush and rub my hand against her shoulder. "Plus, it's not even that bad. I've experienced worse. I'm assuming you read my file by now."
She turns to me and I nod. Her face lets out a sad look and she buries her face into my chest.
"I'm sorry if it scared you," she says. I can't believe she just said that. My hand grabs her face again and I bring her face closer to mine. I use my serious eyes and stare deep into her eyes.
"Don't you ever apologize for something you couldn't control. What happened to you only proves how strong of a person you are. I wish to be half the person you are, Faye." I say with a serious voice as well. Her face relaxes and I run my hand through her hair. It's so soft and she smells amazing. She leans in and leaves a kiss on my cheek. I instantly turn red.
Holy shit. That just happened.
She notices me blushing and laughs. "Thank you, Cap."
I really really like it when she calls me that.
"As much as I would like to stay here, I think the PEOPLE OUTSIDE MY DOOR NEED SOME ASSISTANCE!" She yells and I hear feet running away from her door. I can't help but laugh that she caught them. Even I didn't hear them. She gets up from her bed and makes her way into her bathroom with a change of clothes in her hands.
"Cap, you gotta be better at checking me out. I can feel your eyes on me," she says. I laugh at her comment and stand next to her. I look down at her and she has to look up to me. I grab her waist and pull her closer to me. She lets out a playful yelp and I can't help but smile.
"I wasn't trying to be secretive. I was trying to make sure you knew I was checking you out," I say. Her cheeks turn red and she pulls herself closer to me. This felt right. This felt like home.
"I'll see you in a bit, Cap," she says. I know this is my cue to leave so that she has privacy.
"You know I can stay..." I say and she throws a piece of clothing at me. What she didn't realize is that she threw her black laced underwear with her shirt. "Oh I'm keeping this," I say while grabbing the clothes she threw at me. She marches towards me and grabs them out of my hands. She pushes me onto her bed so that I'm sitting down and she's a tad bit taller than me.
"Not just yet, Rogers," she says with a sultry voice and walks towards the her bathroom. I can't help but stare at the way her hips move, the dragon tattoo that's peaking underneath her long t-shirt, and the long, black hair swaying back and forth. "See you soon, Cap," and she closes the door.
God, what is this woman doing to me?
I leave her room and make my way to the gym. I gotta release these pent up feelings somehow, since I can't do it another way. Luckily, Bucky was there so I could get a good fight in.
"Ready to lose, old man?" He yells at me.
"Bucky, we're the same age," I laugh and so does he.
"Yeah, but the difference is I don't have a hot Lieutenant Commander by my side," he replies.
"Oh shut it, Bucky. Not my girlfriend," I playfully say.
"It's only a matter of time."
Well, let's hope so.
