"Move it ladies! Work off all them extra calories!" Coach Ryder yelled at us as we did suicides.

"Gesù Cristo!" Mariah panted running to the next line at the end of the soccer field. I was running back up to the line before that making my way back up to the first one.

"Ten seconds! Anyone who doesn't cross the line in ten seconds causes the entire team to start over!" That was all the motivation we needed, no one wants to be that person so we all started to hustle.

"Eight, seven, six, five," Coach counted down as I made it back on five, now the only one left was Krystal and Josie.

"Three, two." I began to panic as they tried to beat the time.

"One!" They touched the last line and I pulled them both towards me before the timer started buzzing.

"Oh thank God." I sighed as the two fell onto the grass right in front of me.

"And that is why," Krissy panted trying to speak and catch her breath.

"That is why you're on defense." She complimented me with a chuckle.

"Yeah I've always got your back; and don't you forget it." I sat down on the grass next to them catching my breath also, my legs burn like a motherfucker.

"Technically that was cheating." Coach defended.

"No, you said if they never made it back in time we do it again, they made it just in the nick of time."

"You pulled them across the line!"

"Look you never said anything about helping each other or how they cross the line. The deal was to simply cross the line in time coach, and they did. Come on we're dying here Coach." I pointed behind me to everyone else sprawled in the field dehydrated.

"Fine." She agreed. "I'll end practice for today but Wednesday is gonna be brutal." I chuckled.

"We love you too Coach!" We all yelled in unison as she walked away giving a little 'whatever' wave.

"Ara." Mariah called softly and I looked up at her.

"Wanna hang out later?" She questioned.

"Um... I can't, I have to pick out a song and figure out my choreography for mom's charity event later." I gingerly declined as I stood up heading towards the back entrance of the school. I wasn't lying nor was I trying to avoid her but I honestly have to figure these things out because I normally pick a song in advance but this year I slacked off.

"Ara please. I'm tired of this back and forward shit, I'm tired of you being upset with me, I'm tired of not knowing what I did so wrong to deserve this, I'm just tired of this. Can we please go back to the way we were?" I pushed the doors open then spun around to face Mariah.

"You do know that I'd never do anything to hurt you right?" She nodded.

"And I'd never do anything to jeopardize your happiness right?" She nodded again. "So you do know that your happiness means the world to me."

"Of course I do." She answered. "Why ask if I know these things?"

"Same reason you asked me those questions last week, to see if I believed you when you said it the first time." I turned back around heading to the gym where my brother had basketball practice. I opened the door and took a seat onto the bleachers.

"Go Ty!" I yelled as he dunked the ball into the net. He and the entire team including Jordan looked in our direction. Looks like someone made the damn team.
