" Where do we go first?" Zeke asks while Uriah pouts in the corner. He didn't think we should do anything until the police confirmed something. but, three days after we reported it, there was still no news. Eventually, Zeke and I got him to agree with much arguing and blackmail. My parents had taken their leave about an hour ago, claiming that they had to go to a meeting. Odd, since that was their excuse three days ago when we tried to talk about Tobias with them. I'm getting the feeling that they don't like him much.
" Well we know Peter took him so I'd say his house would be the best place to start." I suggest. Zeke makes a quick turn so he's heading the right direction, making the tires squeal slightly.
The road crunches under the tires of the car as the three of us speed down the roads. Peter had slipped his address into my locker at one point for reasons that are unknown to me, so we are using peters stupidity against him. The trees flash by in blurred flashes of green and brown as we pull down the street indicated upon the piece of paper that rests, crumpled in my lap. The brakes screech on the blacktop as we slow to a stop at the correct address. I burst from the car before Zeke has fully stopped it. My feet slap upon the warm concrete as I dash up the driveway.
I quickly slow when I see the lack of cars in the driveway. The beige house stands tall before me, casting a shadow on the concrete driveway. Upon closer inspection, the door is propped open, it's dark wood slightly shifting with the light breeze. I dash to the front door, my hair whipping around my face. I burst inside the house, scanning my surroundings, showing me a place that is obviously only inhabited by a teenage boy. The floor is covered by video games and pizza boxes, leaving hardly any of the soft brown carpet visible.
Zeke and Uriahs footsteps sound behind me, pounding through the entry way. Without a word, we spread through the house, searching every clothing infested room. Though many odd things hide in many of the rooms, none of them is Tobias, though I'm pretty a sure I saw a raccoon . Zeke and Uriah seem to have come to the same conclusion.
" He's not here" Zeke confirms. Uriah and I nod along " Can you think of anyone else that may want to kidnap Four?"
" No I-" A thought pops into my head "Oh I hope I'm wrong"
I return hastily to the car where Zeke and Uriah crawl in shortly after. I pull up the desiered destination on my phone and give Zeke instructions. We pull in front of the towering structure shortly, as it wasn't very far away.
" Why are we at the mayors house?" Uriah wonders
" Ask no questions" I state mysteriously. Scanning the property, I see Peters car in the driveway. "He's here"
Zeke and Uriah follow me up to the door, twisting the ornate knob to find the door open. The inside of the house is silent apart from the continuous whirr of the fans. I tiptoe to the carpet that looks slightly different from the others. The soft edges of the swatch are slightly lifted from the floor.
" Here" I whisper, pointing at the displaced carpeting. We slip over to the place, working our fingers under the slab. With a joint effort, we lift the square, revealing a set of wooden stairs that descend into a dark pit. I turn myself into a position where I can get down the stairs. Zeke and Uriahs shoes appear above me, descending the stairs with me.
After shimmying down the dark hole, we stand in a small hallway, a cramped room with concrete walls on all sides. The only imperfection in the smooth rock walls is a handle, jutting out from the cool stone. My hand wraps around the handle, twisting the metal piece and pushing it inward. Inside is a simple, small room. A bed sits in one corner and otherwise there is no furniture. In the farthest corner of the room, a dark shape sits curled in a corner. My breath catches in my throat as I catch the dark stains if blood that dot the stone floor.
