I wake to a finger in my side. With a yelp, I shoot up in bed, my covers pooling near my feet. I have to blink a few times to get the blurry ness out of my eyes and even then I'm hesitant to look. What if it's Tobias? What if it isn't? Why would it be?

My eyes hesitantly travel to the face above me. Dark brown hair and a deep mocha completion, Christina. She smiles slightly at me before flopping down on my bed, disturbing the ruffled sheets to the extreme. I fix my gaze on the fabric that hangs off the corners of the bed, hardly clinging on.

"I heard from the idiots that my ship is sinking." She attempts to joke. I simply respond with a disgruntled shake of my head, brushing off her attempt at lightening the mood. I'm grateful for her attempt but I'm not even going to bother faking a smile.

" I know this sucks now but you two can fix this" she says, conviction evident in her tone.

"I've heard this speech twice already, thank you" I reply shortly, regretting my rudeness shortly after "Sorry. I'm kinda frazzled."

" It's fine. The only advice I can give is to let his have some time. I think that's the best thing right now."

"How though? We live in the same house" I sigh

" Don't pressure him to talk to you. If he wants to talk, he'll talk. But on another note, he's out like a light so you can go take a peek at his pretty face. I'll wait here and go through your closet" she ushers me from my room to his.

He lies on the bed, half in-half out of the covers, his hair tousled atop his head in dark brown knots. His eyes are puffy around the edges and his cheeks are flushed. I notice a few pieces of glass on the floor, a smashed picture frame that once held a photo of the two of us in front of the school. I silently tiptoe in and scoop up the glass so he doesn't hurt himself, scooping the crystalline shards into my hand, before leaving quickly to intercept the ringing phone. I'm careful to close the door, wanting to let Tobias sleep for a while. I tip the glass into one cupped hand as I answer the phone, grabbing the receiver off the hook.

I hold the phone between my cheek and my shoulder, answering it before walking into the kitchen where my parents sit at the table. I ignore them and brush the glass into the trash, wincing when a shard cuts my palm, making satin drops of deep crimson bubble to the surface of my palm.

" Hello" I greet as I walk into the bathroom to rinse my hand.

" Hello" says a familiar voice

" Evelyn?" I question, pausing my rinsing to freeze in shock.

" Tris! I'm glad I got the right number"

" How did you get my number?" I wonder aloud, closing the door to the bathroom with a heel.

" I know a few people" she dismisses, as if it isn't totally odd. "Is Tobias there?"

" Uh he's asleep now" I mutter, not wanting to explain my predicament to her " I can pass along a message."

" Oh... are the two of you still together?" She checks, her voice curious.

" No" I mutter dejectedly, scowling at my reflection, my dirty blonde hair flying around my head in knots.

"Oh! Shame." She fake sympathizes, her voice void of remorse " I wanted to know if he would like to go with his sister and I."

" Go with you two? Where?" I ask worriedly, not liking where this is going

" I'm not sure yet. Montana's quite nice." She muses.

" Out of state?" I gasp, my pale blue-grey eyes staring widely back from the mirror " on a trip or..."

" No dear. We'd move up there." She laughs airily

" O-okay" I say, my voice cracking " I-I'll be sure to tell him"

I promptly shut the phone off, shoving it onto the bathroom counter while wrapping cloth around my hand tightly. I dash up stairs, bursting in on Christina yelling into the phone. I hear Wills name come up a few times so I assume she's mad at him.

" Forget it Will. I need a break" she sighs, her phone jumping with the force she applies when she ends the call.

" What'd he do" I ask, my fingers tangling unconsciously into the fabric I hastily pulled around the deep scratch.

" He's applied to all east coast collages while I'm west coast. He knew I was west coast." She sighs " it's what he wants to do so I'm okay with it but I just... I don't want him to think it's alright to hurt me so... I don't know."

" Uriah was having problems with Mar" I recount " go on a date with Uri, show him that there's consequences if he plays with you."

" You're brilliant."

" I beg to differ" I sigh " I have a situation."

" Hmm" she hums while she turns to my closet.

" One of Fours family members just called" that gets her attention, her eyes meeting mine in a mirror " she wants him to move up to Montana with them. He's so mad at me. I bet if I told him he'd go just to spite me"

" He has a right to know. It's his choice" she says, smiling slightly

" You're right. You go with Uriah and I'll attempt to talk to him." I sigh, ushering her out. Before she goes downstairs I hear her on the phone with Uriah, who had left while I was asleep
" Be ready in ten you're taking me on a date" she demanded before disappearing down the staircase.

I hesitantly knock on the door, getting no answer. I walk in, seeing him still fast asleep

" Tobias" I whisper, shaking his shoulder. I would let him sleep but I would've lost my nerve. He mutters something unintelligible, a hand twitching in a gesture to leave.

" Wake up" I say gently. He pries his eyes open, letting them rest on me for a second before his face contorts in a frown and he burrows his head in a pillow.

" Don't be childish" I sigh " fine. Whatever. I'm here to deliver a message."

" What" he snaps, his voice thick.

" Your mother called" he stiffens. " She asked you to move up to Montana with her and your sister"

" Maybe I will" he snaps at me.

" It's your choice" I say holding back tears " I'm but a humble, and very, very sorry delivery man." he scoffs

"Get out" he snarls, facing away from me. Sighing, I leave his room, closing the door with a finality.
