Ruth P.O.V. When I awoke everyone was already up and was watching the parachute float down. I joined them for another delivery of bread. It's identical to the one we received the evening before. Twenty-four rolls from District 3 and that gave us thirty-three in all. They each took five, leaving eight in reserve. No one said it but eight would divide up perfectly after the next death. Somehow, in the light of day, joking about who will be around to eat the rolls had lost its humour. How long could we keep the alliance?

I knew that no one thought the number of tributes would drop so quickly. I sat down next to Finnick to eat my rolls. For some reason it was difficult to look at him. We were like brother and sister and now it was getting so close to the final and I knew I wouldn't be able to kill him. Finnick and I sat alone away from the others. "I can't kill you Finnick." I said to Finnick as I investigated the jungle on the other side of the arena. "I can't kill you either Ruth." Finnick said grabbing my hand in reassurance to me and himself. "What are we going to do?" I asked him about a plan. "I don't know. Beetee's coming up with some sort of trap or plan with the forcefield. So you should wait till then." Finnick said about the forcefield and Beetee.

"What do you mean?" I asked in confusion but scared to know what he was saying. "Ruth I know you too well, you're going to try to protect Roy and you can't kill Johanna, Katniss, Peeta, Beetee and I." Finnick said about the group. "I'm not gonna survive Finnick." I said countering his comment and Finnick shook his head. "You have so much to live for Rut." Finnick said about my family and the baby. "I don't. My family will be able to look after themselves. And if I win, that means you'll be dead with Johanna, Peeta, Katniss, Roy, and Beetee. I wouldn't be able to live with myself." I said about the family and the group as we stayed silent until Beetee called to us about the plan. "I have a plan." Beetee shouted to us and we all sat down in a circle facing him. "Where do the careers feel safest? The jungle?" Beetee said about the Careers and the jungle.

"The jungle's a nightmare." Johanna said rolling her eyes as Peeta thought before adding to Beetee's comment. "Probably here on the beach." Peeta said about the beach as well to everyone. "Then why are they not here?" Katniss said about the Careers not being here on the beach. "Because we are, we claimed it." Johanna said cockily about claiming the beach for ourselves. "And if we left, they would come." I said as Finnick and Roy looked at Beetee. "Or stay hidden in the tree line." Roy said about the treeline of the jungle. "Which in just over four hours will be soaked with water from the ten o'clock wave. And what happens at midnight?" Beetee said about the wave along with mid day and midnight. "Lightning strikes that tree." I said as I pointed towards the tree in the 12 to 1.

"Here's what I propose. We leave the beach at dusk and we head to the lightning tree. That should draw them back to the beach. Prior to midnight, we then run this wire from the tree to the water. Anyone in the water, or on the damp sand, will be electrocuted." Beetee said about the wetness and the lightning as Johanna asked about the wire. "How do we know the wire's not gonna burn up?" Johanna asked about the wire burning up and Beetee smiled to himself. "Because I invented it. I assure you, it won't burn up." Beetee said as we all looked at each other. "Well, it's better than hunting them down." I said about hunting them in the forests. "Yeah, why not? If it fails, no harm done anyway, right?" Katniss said even though she was worried. "Alright, I say we try it." Peeta said agreeing with some of the group. "So what can we do to help?" Finnick asked looking seriously at Beetee. "Keep me alive for the next six hours. That would be extremely helpful." Beetee said about the next six hours.

None P.O.V. Snow and Heavensbee sat in the control room watching the monitor of most of the victors and two newbies. "She is preparing to fight." Snow said pleased about Ruth fighting at last. "That's our girl." Plutarch said about Ruth being their girl. "This is what you predicted." Snow asked Plutarch about his prediction. "Moves and countermoves." Plutarch said as he nodded his head. Plutarch rose from his seat and turned to face Snow. "We'll toast when it's done? In the meantime, make yourself comfortable." Plutarch said to Snow as he left the room.
