Cedric pulled his broom up sharply just before he and Ron crashed to the floor and was able to slow it down for them to hop off without any further injuries. Ron staggered dizzily towards Harry and Hermione who both embraced him.
"Ron was great," Cedric said looking around for Lina, when he couldn't see her he frowned. "Where's Eve?"
"She and Tonks aren't back yet" Remus answered solemnly.
Cedric didn't know what the make of this, Lina and Tonks should've been back by now, but he knew they would both die before letting something happen to the other and that was what terrified him.
"I'm going to have to get back to Downing Street. I should have been there an hour ago" Kingsley said after a sweeping gaze of the sky "let me know when they're back."
Remus nodded, with a wave to the others Kingsley walked away into the darkness towards the gate. The smallest pop sound could be heard as Kingsley disapparated.
Mr and Mrs Wealsey came racing out of The Burrow quickly followed by Ginny. Both parents hugged Ron before turning to Cedric and Remus.
"Thank you," Mrs Wealsey said, "for our sons."
Cedric nodded before looking out into the darkness surrounding them, as selfish as it sounded all he cared about was where Eve was.
"How's George?" Remus asked.
Cedric's head snapped back to the Weasley's "what happened to George?"
"He lost-"
Mrs Wealsey was cut off by a Thestral soaring into sight and landing a few feet from them. Bill and Fleur slid off its back looking windswept but unhurt.
"Mad-Eye's dead" Bill said.
Nobody moved. Nobody spoke.
"We sat it" Bill continued. Fleur nodded, tear tracks glittering on her face. "It happened just after we broke out of the circle. Mad-Eye and Dung were close by us, they were heading north too. Voldemort - he can fly - went straight for them. Dung panicked, I heard him cry out, Mad-Eye tried to stop him but he disapparated. Voldemort's curse hit Mad-Eye full in the face, he fell backwards off his broom and - there was nothing we can do, nothing, we had half a dozen on them on our own tail-" Bill's voice broke.
"Of course you couldn't have done anything," Remus said.
Bill took a breath and looked around, his face fell further when he noticed two were missing "Where's Tonks and Lee?"
"They're not back yet," Cedric said his jaw locked tight.
Suddenly, just like when Cedric and Ron returned a broom materialised directly above them and streaked towards the ground. Tonks landed in a long skid that sent earth and pebbles everywhere.
