Expect the unexpected

Elena, Caroline and Bonnie waited for Rebekah to come out of her obstetrician. She wanted her girlfriends together for the first scan. All three of them had to keep stum till Rebekah decided to announce it to the family as well as the father of the child.

She got out of the consultancy room smiling happily and waving the scan at them.

"Show it!"- Caroline said.

Rebekah explained where what was in the scan.

"So, do you know the gender?"- Caroline continued with question.

"It's a boy!"-Rebekah said.

"And what about Matt?"- Bonnie then asked.

"I have to call him tonight. He is Ethiopia."- Rebekah said- "Let's go and celebrate with a glass of infused water. No cocktails for me anymore."

Elena's phone went and she answered it as it was Elijah calling about their dinner date.She moved away from them.

"She was so quiet. Is she all right?!"- Rebekah then said-"all this must have brought back memories of her pregnancy."

When Elena joined them, Rebekah addressed it wanting to make sure Elena was all right.

"Hey... I am fine. Come on. I do think about it sometimes and it was medically impossible to have it. There is nothing stopping me concieving a child properly. Elijah and I looked into it."

"You did? Oh, so soon you might be pregnant too?!"- Caroline said ectatically.

" And maybe you are next?!"- Elena said to Caroline.

"Oh, I don't know. Klaus and I just got it together and we want to do stuff..." and then she stopped there.

"What stuff?"- Rebekah said looking quizzingly at her friend.

"He asked me to go travel with him for a year."- Caroline then said.

"OMG!"- Rebekah replied- "and you are telling us that now?!?"

"I am thinking about it. I haven't said yes."- Caroline replied.

"No, you haven't said it YET. Which in your language means- I have taken all measures and I am ready to go. I knew that he would not be able to be in one place for long."- Rebekah said.

"I have done nothing but work, ever since I know I exist, whether it was high school, college, work, and I think I can take one year off and see the world"- Caroline said.

"Ok, but you have to be back for my wedding!"- Elena said.

Now everyone looked at her. It looked like there were new things and secrets all over the place.

"Yes, we set the date!"- Elena said-"last night."

"And? When is it? Oh, don't tell me I will be big as whale and won't be able to help you with the wedding planning... and don't tell me you are doing something small even though it is Mexico!?"- Rebekah said.

"I took in consideration you and giving birth, and we had three dates, but we decided that none particular, but we wanted it to be August.. So it is August 8th. Clear all your diaries."- Elena said.

"Right. Who is doing the planning?"- Rebekah wanted to know.

"I just have a date and a location."- Elena said.

"Don't think that being pregnant would stop me helping you?!"- Rebekah said.

"And what about Michael?"- Bonnie now changed the subject looking at Rebekah, who sighed a little.

"Well, we kinda broke off. I did. I said it is because of work and... anyway when we talked he said that he was not ready to settle down, so....it was easy. "- Rebekah said, but her friends knew she was hiding that she was cut as she so fell for the guy.

Rebekah continued- " I got this little one here and that is all I need."

They wanted to know if there was something new with Bonnie and Kol, and she revealed that they were thinking of buying a house.

That evening Rebekah wrote an e-mail to Matt, as he could not be located.

"Hey Matt,

I hope you are fine. And... oh, I am not good at making chatty type of intros. I will be straight forward and very open. There is no other way around it. I am pregnant and it is yours.

I have attached the latest scan. It is a boy.

Call me no matter what time of day or night it is.

Love,

Rebekah."

The next thing was her brothers and mother. She announced it at the end of the evening dinner. Klaus, Elijah and Henrik were pleased for her. And so was Charly.

"Mother?"- Rebekah waited for Esther's reaction.

Esther got up from her chair and went to her daughter and embraced her.

Rebekah was stunned. She expected a speech.

"A child is always a blessing."- Esther said to her.

"I... you probably wanted me to have found someone and then have a child?!"- Rebekah said.

"No... I have no illusions anymore about the way you lead your life. Who am I to make demands anymore. I want you all to be happy and this family has been through a lot and I see that lately happiness has came back in our lives. "- Esther then looked at Klaus.

"Thank you, mother. This means so much"- Rebekah said.

"Champagne?!"- Elijah now said and now went to the drawing room to get some.

"Infused water for me!" Rebekah said.

Miss Arnold assisted Elijah, who now shared his bit of news about him and Elena setting the date. Rebekah stirred the pot a bit more by asking Klaus what his plans were. It was clear to him that Caroline has shared the information.

"Yes. That means she is going?!"- Klaus said happily.

"Caroline wouldn't just spill it if she didn't yet made up her mind."- Rebekah said,

Esther was not pleased to hear that Klaus was soon to depart, but she knew that he was a restless soul and needed something more in his life. New challenges.

Sometime in the night, Rebekah got a call from Matt, who couldn't stop raving about the news.

"I am booking the first flight out of here. But I need to arrange stuff here before I go."- Matt said.

"Of course. We are here and whenever you get here is fine." Rebekah said,

They chatted some more about her and then she updated him on Bonnie, Elena and Caroline.

When they hung up. Rebekah layed awake for a while thinking about him. They had great two weeks after she had met him at the ball. The attraction was mutual, she remebered. And they could talk and she had great fun with him. They both went into it with no strings attached. And then he had to leave.

"He is a good guy!" Rebekah muttered thinking of Matt and smiled. In her heart she was happy that it was Matt's child. They connected and he was the only guy she ever felt completely herself with.

"Expect the unexpected!"- she said and rubbed her belly.
