I couldn't sleep for the rest of that night. Who had had the ring? What did this ring even look like?

"Jaedda, quit tossing," Thorin demanded.

"Sorry," I said. "I'm just trying to figure out who had the ring on."

"Jaedda, sit up," Thorin requested as he lit a candle. I did as I was told.

"What is it?" I asked.

He held my hands in his. "It was me," he admitted. "I was the one who wore the ring."

I slowly cocked my head. "What are you talking about?"

He let out a sigh. "In Mirkwood. When Bilbo released us from the dungeon, I had to go back to get you. Bilbo told me that the ring would turn me invisible. It did. That's how I made it to Thranduil's room."

I creased my brows. "What?"

He nodded.

"So now, your whole species is at stake because you went to rescue me?"

"It wasn't just me!" he exclaimed. "Bilbo brought that ring here. He too is to blame for this."

I backed out of the bed.

"Jaedda-"

"Be quiet," I demanded. "You helped bring this upon us."

He held up his hands defensively. "I didn't know that the ring was evil!"

I nodded. "Okay."

"We'll get through this, Jaedda," Thorin comforted. "We always do."

I climbed back into bed. "What will happen if Azog does try to do another species purge?" I asked.

"We'll just have to fight back. It's the only thing we know how to do."

"Yeah..."

"Don't worry my nymph. Things will turn out okay."

I nodded. "Whatever you say."
