Chapter 13 - New Threats

Several days passed. Thorin and I did not see or speak to each other. I legitimately had no clue where exactly he had gone off to. I thought long and hard about what we had talked about.

It would defile Thorin's reputation as king if I slept with another person. Especially if I had children with that person.

Then I thought of Teodric's opinion. One that I wasn't sure of. I sought out to find him.

I walked swiftly through the halls to try and find his chambers, but was stopped by a strong hand. I looked up to see who it was. It was that one Nymph that I didn't recognize before, but I could clearly tell who it was now, and it made my heart beat fast.

"Tasar," I whispered. "You made it out?"

He nodded and smirked. "Indeed."

"Why didn't you make yourself known to me?"

"I didn't want you to see me in this pathetic state," he informed. "But I am well now."

He leaned down and kissed my lips. I gently pulled away.

"Tasar, I can't."

"Why not?" he asked aggressively. "Jaedda, we were in love! Don't you remember anything from the past?"

I nodded. "Of course I remember. That's why I can't."

He backed away from me. "Since when did you become a goody-two-shoes?"

"Listen, Tasar, this journey I've been on the past year has really opened my eyes. I'm not the person I used to be."

"Who are you, then, Jaedda Thorn?" Tasar asked, clutching my shoulders.

I stared into his brown eyes. "I am Jaedda Oakenshield."

With that, I swiftly walked off to Teodric's room. I heard Tasar let out an exaggerated huff, but nothing else. I let out a long sigh.

I knocked on Teodric's door but no one came to answer.

That's strange. I thought. I knocked again, but still, no one came. I let out a breath and prepared myself to walk inside. I opened the door and peeked my head through the crack.

"Teodric?" I asked. The room was silent, yet well lit. I looked further in and let out a scream. I slammed the door and ran to the throne room.

Thorin was already running toward me.

"Jaedda, I heard you scream, what is the matter?"

I buried my head into his chest. "Thorin, I think that there are Orcs in the mountain!" I cried.

"Orcs?" he asked, both shocked and disgusted. "Do a search of the mountain!" he ordered the guards. "What made you think this?"

I shivered, my breath unsteady. He stroked my hair.

"Teodric," I whispered. "I went to speak with him, but he has a sword run through his chest. An Orcish blade, Thorin!"

He sharply looked up. "Teodric is dead?"

I nodded. "What do we do?! The attack is upon us!"

His breath was cut short. I looked up at him. His gaze was fixed on something ahead of us. In sudden fear, I turned my head to see what he was looking at. It was not Azog, but his spawn, Bolg, who Legolas had killed in the Battle of the Five Armies.

The Necromancer redirected him too?

He sneered at us, metal covering his whole body like built in armor.

Thorin threw his cape off and drew his sword. I slipped behind him.

"Jaedda, run and find Gandalf. We have to evacuate Erebor."

I nodded and ran to the throne, taking the Arkenstone with me so that Bolg would not be able to take it somehow. Behind me, I heard the quarrel commence, and I winced. What if this was it? What then?

As I ran, I tripped on my skirt, thus ripping it straight down the middle.

"Great," I muttered. I picked myself up again and ran to my chambers and locked the door.

I quickly and rather sloppily undressed myself and put on my old trousers and a chain vest. I armed myself with my sword and dagger. I slipped the Arkenstone into my pocket and carefully unlocked the door. I opened it and cautiously stepped out into the hallway. It was eerily quiet. No one was rushing about, but no orcs were chasing me either.

So I ran down the hall to where I knew Gandalf's chambers were. I pounded furiously on his door.

"I know I know!" He exclaimed. He opened the door, already armed with his sword, Glamdring. "An attack is underway!"

A large bell sounded throughout the mountain. The emergency bell. I suddenly heard dwarves screaming and running all about in response to this warning.

"Gandalf, Bolg is alive as well," I told him. Gandalf's eyes widened.

"What?" he asked. "I thought that Greenleaf killed him!"

"And I thought Thorin killed Azog, and yet, here we are!"

"We must find your Nymph friends."

He stepped out and we stared a thorough search. After finding Tasar and Kester, I informed Gandalf about Teodric's death.

"Jaedda, go search for Legolas and Strider. They will protect you."

"I want to stay with Thorin!" I argued.

"Mrs. Oakenshield, this is not the time!" Gandalf snapped. My head drooped low and nodded.

I ran off to where I knew they would be. I ran along a landing, but slipped on something and fell into the room of gold, landing hard on a pile of it. I let out a grunt, before feeling that I had hit my head and it was now bleeding.

The last thing I remember was looking to my left to see Azog the Defiler in the distance, slowly walking through the gold.
