How to train a Skrill

Astrid's P.O.V

I rubbed my eyes and sat up hoping that yesterday was just a dream about the Skrill, I opened the windows and a very cheeky dragon poked her head through.

"Stormfly" I said chuckling. "I sure did miss you" I said hugging her head.

I closed the windows and ran downstairs, wait a second Hiccup never gave me a present for Snoggletog, I'm sure he will give it to me tonight at the great hall snoggletog party. I grabbed my axe then ran out the front door, one of Stormflys babies came to greet me.

"Heya little guy" I said patting his head. "I really need to name you guys don't I"

I carefully rounded the mini Nadders into my arms and carried them all the way to the Stabled where everyone else kept their babies with other adult dragons to keep an eye on them. I then grabbed Stormflys saddle and put it on her back, I then adjusted her straps and mounted. We walked out the door and she ran, then finally leaped into the air. We landed outside Hiccups house, I dismounted my sweet Nadder and patted her on the side.

"Stay here girl" I said slowly walking away. I banged on the door knowing it wouldn't matter how hard I knocked, and Hiccup opened up with a huge saddle in his arms.

"Hey Astrid" he said smiling.

"That's not for Toothless is it" I said.

"No...take another guess" he said teasing.

"Cloudjumper?" I said with confidence.

"Try the Skrill" he said as if it were nothing.

"What! But Hiccup, you know Dargur is eventually going to come back for it." I said trying to persuade him.

"I know Astrid but, he's not the same dragon we knew and feared, he has kids now" he said stubbornly.

"Wait so if he's a boy where's the mother?" I said, to be honest I don't read the book of dragons as much as Fishlegs does.

"Well the mothers leave to find a new nesting ground where she will live and it's the fathers duty to keep the babies safe, and in a few years time they will meet up again and swap" he said.

"Right" I said pretending I knew what he just said. Thor oh mighty this isn't a dream. He walked past me putting the saddle on a fence post and whistled loudly.

A huge glistening Skrill came diving down making me dive behind Stormfly, the Skrill nuzzled Hiccup affectionately.

"Hey bud" he said smiling, willing me to trust him. I slowly walked towards the Skrill holding my hand out so it knew I was friendly, he walked forward quickly and sat tall and puffed out his chest. I took a gulp and looked away from his eyes, he gently lowered his head and sniffed my hand before my fear became my friend.
