Standing outside the bedroom door, Gino held his breath, afraid to face Valerio; tonight had been one of the happiest moments of his life following the events that had been happening lately. Gino needed a chance to interact with ordinary people to have fun, and Amanda's birthday was just the thing he needed.

Turning the door nob, Gino gently pushed open the door to a dark room, his eyes scanning for any movements after confirming that no one was in the room; Gino closed the door and switched on the lights, immediately feeling startled.

Valerio sat to the left of Gino on the armchair with his legs crossed, a considerable scrowl displayed on his handsome face. Looking at the time on the bedside table, which read 12:30, Gino wondered how long Valerio had been sitting there.

Minutes passed as the two stood staring at one another; it wasn't until Gino felt sleepy did he sigh and walked towards Valerio; sitting on his lap, Gino put his thin arms around Valerio's neck before speaking.

"I'm sorry; I know you were worried about me."

Silent was the only answer Gino got from Valerio; letting out another sigh, Gino laid his head on Valerio's shoulder, closing his eyes, only opening them when he heard Valerio speak.

"Did you know how worried I was when I returned and realised you were gone? When you went against my order. If something were to happen to you, I would not know what to do. I cannot lose you; I've already lost your mother to hunters. I don't know how to handle things if I lost you too."

"Is this what it's about? Your love for my mother, am I just a replacement for her? Her death pained you. Your reasons to be with me now was only because I'm her son is that it," questioned Gino.

Getting up from Valerio's lap Gino walked towards the door, not wanting to be in the same room as Valerio, afraid that the other male would laugh at his miserable state, fearful that the truth would hurt him more than it should.

Large arms circled Gino's tiny waist, engulfing him in a warm embrace; knowing how futile it would be to try and free himself, Gino stood still, his back towards Valerio.

"Where are you going?"

"Is it true that you loved my mother," asked Gino, knowing the truth would hurt him, but it was better than not knowing and living his life as a shadow of his mother; it was better to see the truth now than live a life of regret.

"Yes, I did."

As those words were spoken, Gino's tears that he tried to hold back instantly fell down his cheeks; turning in Valerio's arm, Gino looked at his handsome face.

"Then why did you.."

"Your mother was indeed someone that I had feelings for, but they were not feelings of love; she had saved my life and brought me back from hell; in this lifetime, I will not be able to thank her enough; at first, when I learned of your existence, I had to question my feelings towards Lily, especially later on when I found out your connections to her it made me question many things. But one thing I am certain about is that you are not Lily."

Valerio lifted his hand to wipe the tears from Gino's cheeks before continuing.

"Recently, I found out some new information that even now I am still finding it hard to process; one of the reasons I met Lily was the pull of a mate. It was not a coincidence that I was found by Lily that day. It was because of our bond."

"Our bond? What do you mean by that."

Valerio did not answer immediately; instead, he took Gino's hand and led him to the sofa; sitting down, Valerio pulled Gino towards him so that the smaller male was sitting on his lap before he continued.

"When I met Lily, I did not know she was with child; this was one of the reasons I found Lily attractive. I was not in love with Lily herself, but the bond of a mate pulled me in, but at the time, my younger self thought I was in love with your mother, but it had been you growing inside of her that made the feeling irresistible."

Looking at Gino's neck, Valerio pulled out the necklace that hung low around his neck.

"It never occurred to me that Lily might have known about my existence and that she knew what you were to me; it might explain the reason why she left this to you precisely instead of throwing it away; she knew that this was the only thing that would make me find you years later after her death."

"You mean my mother knew what you were but still chose to save you."

"It seems like it, beautiful; there is something else I need to tell you; the hunter that had destroyed my home and the reason I was able to meet you is Amanda and Tony's father; I suspect that they had a hand in your injury if they are hunters like their father than they would know what I am and your connection to me."

Gino could not believe his ears; how could Amanda and Tony be hunters throughout the years he had known them? Nothing there indicated what they were; thinking back, Gino realised that he always had been afraid of Tony at that time. He didn't know why either, but every time he was in the same room as him, a cold chill went down his spine.

"Do you understand now why I forbid you to meet with them? Until I know what they are up to, I cannot risk you being caught in the crossfire."

"I understand, but Valerio listens; this may sound stupid, but I don't think Amanda is a hunter. I know what you are thinking, but she is not like the rest of her family; if anything, I don't think she has any idea what they are. Amanda and I are around the same age, and the battle between hunter and dragons happened before we were born."

"Your reasoning does make sense, but I still cannot take that chance; your safety is everything; without you, there cannot be me," said Valerio hugging the more petite man tighter if there is a way for him to swallow Gino and keep in his belly Valerio would pay any price to obtain that magic.
