With one arm around his stomach, Nick followed behind Cherry, each step sending an excruciating pain to his stomach, where he had landed earlier from the attack of the dragon gem.

"Cherry, explain to me what the deal is with the dragon gem. Isn't just something made up of a dragon's internal energy, something they released from their stomach similar to what a cat does when they cough up hairballs or something like that."

"How can you compare the internal energy of a dragon to something as simple as a cat coughing out hairball? How is it that a hunter like yourself does not know the origins of a dragon gem

I remember hearing my father talk about it once or twice, but I had never paid much attention to it; if I remember correctly, this was why he had them killed that day."

Cherry turned to face Nick. Her arms crossed over her chest. She explained the power behind the dragon's gem, not worried about how pale Nick's face had become.

"A dragon's gem is a sacred object between fated mates; it holds tremendous power according to the status of the dragon. Valerio is a pureblood, a direct descendant of the first dragons that walked on Earth. His dragon gem is by far the most powerful object in the dragon world; many people have wanted Valerio's dragon gem; it shows the authority one has to stand by his side."

"The dragon gem attacked me when it realised its owner was under attack, but Gino is a human without Valerio or his blood. The dragon gem would not be able to work; how did it know when to activate itself."

"That I am not too clear about. If Valerio gave it to that human as a token of their love, it still would not be activated without the blood of Valerio or at least an offspring.." The minute Cherry spoke those words, her eyes widened. Clenching her fist, Cherry walked towards the door she had just walked in but was stopped by Nick, who had guessed what she was about to do.

"Let me go if you don't want more pain."

"Calm down and think things through; if you go in there now, you will make a big mistake."

"I don't care; let me go, Nick."

Despite his pain, Nick tried to calm Cherry down by grabbing her arms together and pulling her into his embrace, knowing precisely what was going through her mind.

After a few seconds of struggle, Cherry squeezes her tiny body out of Nick's grip. Anger, Jealousy and sadness were clearly shown on her beautiful face.

"Do you know what is happening? It was not the dragon's gem that flung you off the ground; it was the fetus growing inside him. It is already strong and only in the belly; imagine its power once it is born. We need to eliminate them now."

Without waiting for Nick's reply, Cherry again made her way to the door when a mighty hand grabbed her from behind, making her fall from the unexpected attack. Cherry had just got up off the ground when she was once again struck down; this time, however, she could not get up as Nick had backhanded her across the face, making her dizzy.

"You.. no..no one has ever dared hit me like this, not even my parents; how dare you?"

"You will not lay a hand on him? Do you not understand how much advantage we have here? Imagine how much he would sacrifice to have his family back in his hands. Unless Valerio is where I want him to be, No one will get in the way of my plan, even if that person is my mate," warns Nick.

Hearing Nick speak, Cherry lifted her face to look at the person standing before her. The Dark aura emanating from Nick made Cherry see the hunter within him, the man she was destined to be with. From the first time she met Nick until now, this was the first time she truly felt scared of him.

With a nod, Cherry lowered her gaze and held her hand to her cheeks, which had become red, only looking up again once the room was empty.

Nick woke up to the ringing of his phone; after many hours of trying to find comfort from his pain, he had just gotten a few hours of sleep.

"What is it."Nick sat up after hearing the other person speak, showing interest in the other person's words.

"Good job, meet me out front."

Hanging up the phone, Nick got up from the only bed in the room; beside him, Cherry was sleeping soundlessly with her bare chest out; perky pink nibbles could be seen to the naked eye. Pulling the blanket back over her, Nick got up and left, grabbing a shirt to put on before heading out the door.
