Xander jumped onto the docked yacht and placed the bag carefully in his hand on the floor before extending his hand out for Gino to grab. Once onboard, Gino walked to one of the seats beside the driver area while Xander started the yacht's engine, which roared into life as he sat down.
Xander was so preoccupied with wheeling in the anchor after successfully starting the yacht's engine that he let his guard down, not realising that a figure had emerged from within the yacht's cabins.
"Xander, watch out!" screamed Gino, instantly bolting out of his seat with both hands holding on to the eggs tightly, afraid of dropping them.
With the unexpected ambush, Xander was struck square in the face, resulting in him staggering a few feet from where he was earlier.
His attacker, a big, burly man who looked like he belonged in a wrestling ring, did not give a moment for Xander to regain his balance as he delivered blow after blow. Just as the attacker thought they had the upper hand, Xander grabbed onto their clenched fist, which would have resulted in another blow to his abdomen.
With a surge of power, Xander balled his fist and landed a punch onto the unexpected man's face, which had them flying back a few feet. Moments after the man landed on his back, a loud thud could be heard near the cabin entrance.
The man who fell near the cabin door looked at Xander and Gino before raising his palms to release a fireball towards Gino. Gino grabbed the bag before running for cover as soon as he predicted the man's intentions.
Boom
A massive chunk of the yacht was missing from where Gino once stood. Recovering from his near-experienced death, Gino looked towards the place he stood moments ago and saw the aftermath of the attack; not only was half of the yacht missing, but flames from the attack were also visible.
Gino turned to see Xander, who had moved when the fireball was released. Xander grabbed the bag before speaking.
"We need to move; the yacht will blow up at any minute."
Without waiting for a reply, Xander hurled Gino up, carrying him bridal style before leaping off the yacht. As they were about to land, Xander felt the rush of a fireball towards him, missing by mere inches and hitting one of the trees in the distance instead.
Once they landed on the ground, Xander ran as fast as he could while carrying Gino. They did not get far as another fireball was released, hitting Xander directly on his back and instantly knocking him unconscious—Gino, who had just been held up from the ground moments ago, felt himself falling.
Afraid his eggs would be harmed, Gino cradled them inside his bosom as he fell onto the sandy beach.
It only took Gino a second to realise that Xander was injured; it was the only reasonable explanation explaining their sudden downfall.
Once his body touched the ground, Gino groaned when it came in contact with the sandy surface of the beach.
Gino did not have time to ponder over his minor injuries as the sound of a giant of a man landed a few feet away from where Xander fell from being attacked.
"Say hello to Valerio for me when you meet him on the other side," sneered the man while the damaged yacht in the background suddenly blew up; the sounds of it were so loud that Gino covered his ears and closed his eyes at the blaring sound.
As the scene in the background occurred, the man standing beside Xander paid no mind to his surroundings; his eyes were locked on his target.
Conjuring another fireball, the man aimed it towards Xander's motionless body.
Before anyone could react, the giant man who was ready to attack had been blasted a few meters away from where he once stood, his vast body dropping to the ground after hitting a tree. Witnessing the ordeal, Gino whipped his head around and saw Valerio and Connor emerging from the woods.
Heaving a sigh of relief at seeing Valerio unharmed, Gino pushed himself off the ground in the next second; however, Gino was not ready for what came after.
Valerio emerged from the woods after sending a powerful energy ball towards his enemy that had them flying towards the other side of the forest, where a vast tree broke in half due to the impact of the man's large body.
Valerio locked eyes with Gino for a few seconds before his eyes wandered to the person lying motionless on the ground; a sense of dread washed over him. Rushing forward, Valerio ran past a stunned Gino to kneel beside Xander.
"Xander!! Wake up," demanded Valerio, slapping Xander on the face a few times, trying to get a response.
Gino stood rooted to the ground for a few more minutes before making his way over to a distraught Valerio, trying to soothe the man. Gino gently put his arms around Valerio's shoulders.
"Valerio"
Like a dormant volcano erupting, Valerio pushed the small person beside him away while lifting the large man.
Having been suddenly pushed to the side, Gino was stunned for a few seconds before realising what had just transpired, seeing Valerio trying to hold Xander up. Gino got up and took a few steps to the other side of an unconscious Xander.
Gino had only lifted Xander's limb arms before he was pushed violently once more by Valerio, followed by a few words coming out of the other man's mouth.
"You get away from him; you are why he is like this."
"Val... I."
"You go get out of here," Valerio said before pushing Gino away.
Without another word, Valerio carried Xander into the distance towards the villa where he had come from earlier.
"Valerio", cried out Gino, running after the man. Gino only ran a few steps before his body was grabbed mid-waist, strong arms holding him in place.
"Gino, let him go; his mind is all jumbled; he needs time to adjust to what is happening," said Connor.
Gino listened but did not reply as he watched the love of his life walk further away until not even his shadow could be seen; for a long time, Gino stood in Connor's embrace, tears streaming down his pale cheeks.
