Hearing voices, my instinct reaction was to jump up with my head bowed, but I couldn't move. Why couldn't I move!
Tuning in to the distant voices, I heard a women's voice speak softly and quietly.
'She seems to be improving her brain activity is showing good signs. She should wake up from her coma soon, that sure was a fall down the stairs.'
Then the memories my brain had tried so hard to forget came rushing back, and I became aware of a fast beeping noise.
'Nurse, what's wrong with her?' Wait that was Beta John why is he here? Where am I?
It sounded if Beta John had a cold, then the realization hit me like a slap in the face, I was in a coma and he was putting on a show of a concerned family member.
'That's her heart rate increasing, nothing to worry about though, your Marley Midnight will be just fine. Don't worry!'
He isn't worrying I wanted shout!
At this point I was also grateful I never got the chance to go to school, I would have been so picked on for that name, it's enough at home to deal with!
Then suddenly I had a thought. I had to tell the nurse.
I had to tell her it's all lies, he's faking, i'll say I didn't fall down the stairs, I was finally out of the attic this was my chance! But I couldn't move! NO!
A bang of a door signaled her leaving, 'come back' I thought.
'Right you, I know you can hear me! You say nothing, understand? or i'll find you and do much worse, and I won't bring you to the hospital!'
There goes my chance, I thought sadly.
When I finally did wake up, Beta John never left my side, to the doctors and nurses he may have seemed like a concerned family member, but in reality he was making sure I kept my tongue. Which I did.
Back home the routine went back to normal, although I got frequent pain in my ribs and piercing headaches, no point telling anybody this. They wouldn't help me.
Jay helped me a bit, but he had to be careful the pack didn't find out, or he too would be rejected. An outcast.
Jay came up to my room that night and we chatted a bit, and then there was a silence that stretched between us.
'Help me.' I simply said my voice barely audible.
To my suprise, he replied with determination 'I will!'
