"Those pills...they don't work."

Chapter 11:

-NATHAN'S POV-

"Nathan?" She looked down at me and I immeditaley withdrew my hand, acting like nothing even happened.

I smirked, "Naw."

She faintly smiled, but I saw her eyes glaze over and felt her body stiffen. She looked away from me, and stared at something that I wasn't sure of.

I bit my bottom lip, because I knew exactly what she was thinking.

I closed my eyes and tried to gather my thoughts.

"Those pills...they don't work, yanno."

She didn't reply.

"They don't do shit, they don't even take the pain away for a second."

Still, nothing.

"But maybe, I think I've found something else."

I looked at her, hoping by now she'd turn her head and stop acting like I wasn't there. No such luck.

"Don't you want to know?" I chucked a little, and a tiny smile crept onto her face.

"It's you."

-ORI'S POV-

"It's you."

I snapped my head around, trying to process what he just said. I could be hallucinating, dreaming, somewhere on a cloud. He could be lying--just to get my attention.

"It's..me?" I chocked out, barely a whisper. He smiled a little broader, but he didn't reply. I layed my eyes on him, and refused to break the stare. He didn't look back at me however, and just kept glancing at my hand.

Extremely slowly, he started reaching for my hand, and interliked my fingers into his. He sighed softly, and answered, "Yeah," he looked back up at me, "funny isn't it? The person whom you despise the most, is the only one that can make you feel, alright again."

We stayed there, smiling at each other until we were interrupted by an abrupt and sharp knock.

"Doctor Jones here with her results." A deep, and firm voice said.

Nathan quickly got up, and opened the door. He settled back down in the chair, paying more attention to the doctor than I was.

"The majority of her test rates were negative--which is good." He started flipping through papers, and tracing his pen over lines. His face turned even more serious, if possible, and he closed his binder and looked at me. "But, Miss. Zwerdling, I'm afraid there is some bad news." Nathan's hand squeezed mine as my heartbeat increased at an unusual rate.

"With your medical history--"

Nathan looked at me confused so I said, "Drug-abuse." But it only made him even more beriddled. I squeezed his hand and told him that I'd tell him later. He simply nodded, and the doctor continued.

"It was not a safe move to take the aspirin. No, you did not do anything wrong, nor did you know. From the amount in your blood, you took the appropriate amount, but due to your friends repition of the events that night, you were under a great amount of stress, and it was marked that you would not remember anything that happened before your overdose. Since the events came rushing back in, your brain could not accept any medicine. You had an attack, and fainted. Now that all of that has been taking into consideration, I highly regret to inform you, that you have cancer."

I looked up at the doctor, with nothing in my eyes. No trace of confusion or feeling, because I didn't exactly know what to feel, yet I understood every word he said. Nathan stood up and yanked his hand out of mine. He stormed out of the room, and slammed the door which made me slightly jump.

The doctor watched as he left the room, and I whispered, "Excuse me."

I got up out of the bed and walked out of the room, trying to find where he had gone.

After a few minutes of searching, I stopped a nurse, "Erm, Miss? Have you seen a teeange boy, wearing a gray shirt and some sweatpants?"

She pointed towards a door, and I politely thanked her. She smiled in return as I walked to the room.

I opened the door and saw Nathan sitting down, facing a wall, and staring at nothing.

I slowly and quietly closed the door behind me, and walked up behind him.

I held my left elbow with my right hand, and asked, "You ok, Nath?"

"I just...I don't want you to end up like Bekie." He cringed just saying her name, and it broke my heart to see him like this.

I put my hand on his shoulder and grinned at him. "Nathan, I promise, I won't. I'm not gonna end up like Bekie. I'm gonna be fine!" I nodded my head reassuringly as I talked.

He turned his head to look at me. We locked eyes, and he relaxed. Taking my hand, he pulled me down into a hug.

He slowly and hesitantly whispered into my ear, "I'm sorry, yanno. For everything."

"I'm sorry too, terribly, terribly sorry."

-flashback-

Nathan stormed out of the room once the doctor said I had cancer. The door slammed behind him, making me jump a little in shock. I sat up on my hospital bed, shifting the sheets meanwhile in the process.

The doctor watched him walk out, and breathed out a "Well." before continuing.

"I'm afriad you're not gonna make it. Not for long, anyways."

-flashback over-
