Currently, Steve and Bucky had flown all the way from Afghanistan to France and they were now on the regular jet.

"Were you scared?" Steve asked, grinning. Both had sat down in he back of the jet, just conversing over Bucky's first plane flight.

"I don't know. It's pretty hard to explain." Bucky replied clasping his hands together between his knees.

Steve thought about this for a few seconds.

"I mean, isn't everyone scared at some point in their life?" he asked.

Bucky just shrugged, pretending like he knew everything. Only, he didn't get how no one in the world could have no fear at all.

"I guess." He replied and his phone buzzed in his pocket.

"Hello?"

"Hey Bucky," It was Sam.

"Is there something wrong?"

"Well, I just need you to come as fast as possible to the Tower."

"Why?"

"Surprise."

He chuckled softly and shook his head while Steve raised an eyebrow.

"Alright. But this better be a good one." He warned playfully.

"Don't worry. Even Tony is in this. Right now I have to go, so bye and tell Steve I said hi. Love you."

"Love you." He said and hung up.

"Surprises?" Steve asked, knowing that today was his best friend's birthday.

"What else?"

They landed on the roof of the Avengers Tower. Both anticipating the surprise.

Empty.

The tower was empty.

The holograms and moving things that once moved were gone.

"So where is the surprise?" Steve asked and raised an eyebrow.

Bucky shrugged and squinted his eyes to try and see some sort of movement but eventually ended up seeing nothing.

Just silence.

"Steve?" Bucky asked and realized he was gone too, into the darkness.

A little bit of alarm started coursing through him and he pulled out his gun.

More deafening silence.

"SURPRISE!" Everyone, including Tony Stark came jumping out and the lights went on.

Bucky jumped back, dropped the gun and his heart was at an unnatural pace.

"Happy Birthday Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes." Jarvis announced in his usual robotic voice.

"Whoa..." Bucky gasped and took in what was going on around him.

Steve, Sam, Pepper and Tony smiled widely while Sam bought out a huge cake that read: Happy Birthday Bucky! in blue frosting.

"Happy Birthday Frostboy." Tony said while bro-hugging him. "Forgot it was your birthday old man? Pepper how old is Frostie?"

"Ninety six, Tony." She replied while helping Sam set up a ruptured piece of decoration.

"So Bookworm has a schoolgirl crush on a ninety-six year-old guy with a metal arm? That's something you don't see everyday." Tony laughed, while receiving a glass of scotch from Pepper and a playful glare from Sam.
