Pipher Green
Today was the last day of classes before the Christmas holiday and though I don't hate classes, I'm glad to have a break from the stress they bring.
On my way to Environmental Studies I passed Benjamin as he was walking with a few of his friends. He gave me a wave as we passed and I went to class. I saw his younger brother Lewis in PE that morning and talked a bit more than we had done previously.
"Good morning or good afternoon students," The professor said as we took our seats for Environmental Studies, "Today you will be reading these short passages and answering some multiple choice questions. You may find a friend to pair up with if you'd like,"
That was a dreadful sentence to hear, "You may find a friend to pair up with." This was one of the classes I had that I had no friends in so I decided to not look around the room awkwardly looking for a partner.
"Pipher," A girl spoke behind me, "Can I work with you?"
I agreed, not out of pity, but because I didn't want to be the only one to work alone. She sat down at the table with me and placed down the worksheet and a pencil and we both began reading. Once we had both finished, we discussed the answer choices we thought were right.
"I think this one is C," I said.
"Me too," She agreed.
"And number three is A," She said.
I agreed.
We continued this for the remainder of the questions and once we finished we stopped talking and sat there contently.
"The answer to 15 is D," A voice said behind me.
"No it isn't, it's B," Another voice said.
They argued for what felt like an eternity before I turned my head around and said, "You're both wrong so stop arguing, it's actually A," and I turned back around.
"I thought it was C," Somebody whispered on the other side of the room.
Surprisingly I was able to contain the laughter and for the rest of class I tried to relax and I even got so bored I read through some of my notes.
At 2pm the professor said goodbye and wished us all a good holiday and that was it. My last class before the holiday. Tomorrow and Saturday we could leave to go home which means I need to get a letter back from my mother by then.
After class I went downstairs to the dining hall where a pile of unsorted letters sat. Trying not to make too much of a mess in the process, I began flipping through to try and find one addressed to me or Charles. No luck on either.
I went back upstairs to my room when I was stopped by the sight of Anna talking to Benjamin.
Was she sleeping with the whole school now? Everybody but me?
I walked up to her and Ben and said, "Hey Anna,"
"Hi Pipher," She said, "This is Ben,"
"I know who he is," I responded, "Can I talk to you?"
"I'm actually really busy," She responded, "I'm going with Ben and Charles to the bookstore and to get some coffee,"
Trying to save myself the embarrassment, I just smiled and walked away. In my room I sat on the end of the bed for a good while, thinking, when a terribly stupid idea popped into my mind.
I picked myself back up and went out into the corridor. I straightened my back and picked my head up. I don't need her. I walked through the corridor and then down a set of stairs toward the dining hall. As I entered, I looked around to see a tall redheaded girl sitting by herself with a novel open beside her as she ate. I approached her.
"Hi," I said confidently.
"HI?" She said, confused, "Do I know you?"
"No, you don't..." I spoke, "What year are you in?"
"I'm in my fourth, and my name's Lucy" She said, looking around, "What is this for?"
"My lady friend is hanging out with two of my friends and I want some sort of revenge, I know its a lot to ask and probably really weird,"
After quite a bit of further explaining and detailed discussion, she agreed.
"So," She said, "What are we doing to get revenge?"
"Whatever you're comfortable with,"
She finished her food and packed her novel into her bag before standing up. She was about four inches taller than me or so which is embarrassing on my end. Her and I walked to one of the smaller staircases and went up a flight.
"Here," I said, reaching for her hand.
The only place I knew to go to was a small janitors closet on the second floor. It was either that or the restricted section of the library and I really wasnt looking to be caught, especially by Anna or Charles.
I led her inside the small closet, with only a shelf, an empty bucket, and a mop. Upon further investigation, Lucy saw a handful of condoms on the shelf. The shelf I was too short to see what was on top of.
A small janitors closet didn't really seem like the most comfortable or practical place to do it, but by the condoms on the shelf, it looked like I wasnt the only one with the same stupid idea.
"Take this," She said, handing me one of the condoms.
The awkward tension was still present but Pipher didn't want to let it stop him from getting what he wanted.
"Have you ever done this before?" I muttered.
"Yes,"
We placed our hands on eachother, she ducted down a bit allowing for our lips to meet. I stood on my tiptoes so she wouldn't have to lean as far. She drifted her head away from mine and straightened her back.
"Come with me," She said, opening the door and leading me out. She parted her hand from mine as we began walking, "Did you bring the condom?"
I scurried my way back to the closet to retrieve the condom and ran back to catch up with her.
As I caught up she put her hand into her pocket and then took out a condom she had already grabbed. Once she saw the expression on my face she chuckled and continued walking.
I don't know what was more embarrassing, the fact that I'm four inches shorter than her, me being desperate, or me almost hooking up with a ginger.
She took me up another staircase and down a long corridor where I yet again struggled to keep up with her, causing me to lengthen my stride a bit more than normal.
She took me to a door and opened it, it was a dormitory. In the back of my head I had so many questions but I just hoped and hoped it was her room and not one of her friends. Or even worse, somebody random.
I don't quite know why I'm so desperate, but I am.
I hope you're enjoying this as much as I'm enjoying writing it!
The comment I made about gingers is not meant to be taken literally, I absolutely adore gingers <3
