Anna Benett

The room was somewhat comforting and intriguing while also frightening of what's ahead of us.

The two of us looked around the room and on the table sat a paper with what looked like some sort of unusual code on it.

"Are you good with codes?" She asked me.

"Not particularly, but I've solved a few before,"

That probably didn't ease her anxiety even a bit but honesty is the best policy I guess.

"Look around the room for more clues," I said as I walked toward one side and she went to the other.

We both picked things up, quickly examined them, and put them down if they served no purpose. I looked on the bookshelf and pulled many of the books off, quickly flipped through their pages and put them all back.

Lilith and I had both found a handful of clues which were hidden on the backs and undersides of objects. They had symbols and corresponding letters.

We set the objects down on the table and she went back to searching while I began to solve the puzzle.

This reminded me of the time my parents brought me to an escape room for my birthday a few years ago.

So far we only had a handful of letters and their corresponding symbols and I began to match them up. The clue was only partially decoded so we still had a while to go. Lilith brought me back a few more clues.

The code was fairly simple and it only took a handful of minutes to figure out once I had the clues.

"Stephen Wells" I said, "That's the clue decoded,"

"He wrote a few books," Lilith added, walking toward the bookcase, searching for one of his books. "Here it is!" She exclaimed as she tried to pull it off the shelf.

Instead of it coming off the shelf, when she pulled it, a section of the floor opened.

"Let go," I said.

The floor stayed open and the two of us peered down the hole.

She gulped, "You first?"

I put my feet on the ladder and began to step down it.

"Be careful," I said, as she began to climb down as well.

We both now entered a large tunnel that was dimly lit and began walking down it. I casted the Lumus spell which lit up the tunnel for us to see better.

"I thought you said you've never used a wand before?" Lilith asked me.

"I've seen it used,"

We continued walking until we met a locked door with loud noises coming from behind it.

My breath started getting heavier.

"What do you think is behind there?" I asked.

"Alohomora" She spoke, with her wand in hand.

Once the door opened, a snake-like creature quickly began to slither out and hissed at us.

"I didn't say to open it!" I yelled as I picked up my feet and danced around the creature, trying not to let it touch me.

Lilith began to shoot arrows from her wand toward the snake, which didn't kill the snake like creature, it just slowed it to about a tenth of its original speed.

Once we danced around the snake and went through the door, we moved the snake out into the tunnel before locking the door behind us and using our wands to light up the dark room.
