"Nice to meet you kiddo!" Patton smiled broadly.
"Nice to meet you as well-." Roman glanced to Virgil, who gave a small smile.
"You're the one Virgil's been sitting with at lunch," Patton fixed his glasses. "Right?" Roman nodded and put on a smile. Patton's smile grew. "You should walk with us! We're about to pick up Logan. We could go shopping, stay at Logie's, whatever." Roman glanced to Virgil who gave a subtle nod.
"That sounds go- er.. um- great. I'd love to, Patton." Patton bounced and started to stride on. Virgil and Roman walked side by side about two feet behind him.
They stopped at a corner store and Patton bought himself an mp3 player and some earbuds. Patton explained that he was into 80's stuff and skipped back out.
Roman realized he was having quite a fun time. He let the sun shine on his hair and the breeze cool his face.
"Hey, Romano," Virgil piped up. "You going to space in that head?" Roman snickered.
"No, just haven't been out in a while."
"That makes sense. People without good childhoods don't go outside much." Roman flinched.
"People without good childhoods? How could you possibly-" Virgil interrupted him.
"Look at you," He gestured to Roman with a sarcastic tone.
"Look at me," Roman asked. He felt a bit self-conscious at that moment, though he'd never admit that. "Whatever do you mean?"
"Look at the way that you stand," Virgil pointed at Roman's feet. "People who had a good childhood don't stand like that."
"Uh- okay, scene kid." He shut his mouth and placed his hand over it. "Sorry-."
"For?"
"That was rude."
"Not really--It's fine Princey." Roman slowly nodded and they continued the walk.
-Time skip brought to you by that one left shoe you lost in a creek while you were camping when you were nine. You always said you'd go back for that shoe. You never did. It's still waiting for you. Go get it. Go get that shoe.-
-Knock knock.-
...
-Knock-
"I'll get it! Just a second."
Roman stood on the porch of his bother's home, trying to straighten his shirt and fix his hair. The door swung open.
"Roman? You came!" Remus gasped, pulling him into a hug again.
"Your brother's here?" The familiar smooth voice of Janus appeared as Janus walked up behind Remus.
"Mom!" Remus called, a woman with tan skin and dark brown hair rushed out of the kitchen.
"Yes ho-" She dropped the fork she was holding. She stayed silent, still. Staring at Roman, like she was processing everything slowly. "...baby?" Roman looked to the side. Then his mother started crying. She ran up to him and hugged him. He froze, unsure of what to do.
She composed herself after a few moments and straightened her back. She cupped his face and looked into- probably his soul.
"Oh my little prince.." she cooed, swooning over how tall he was, how she loved his hair. "Do you need anything? Are you staying? Why'd you come?"
"Um- no?- I don't think so, Father probably wouldn't let me, and Remus sort of invited me?" She tried to calm herself and grabbed Roman's hands.
"Let's talk alone in a little. You can catch up with Remus and Janus while I finish dinner. Or you can go see Remy!" She smiled and walked away, picking up the fork she'd dropped.
Roman stood in the doorway for a moment until Remus pulled him inside
"Remy?" Roman stuttered.
"Momma adopted him," Remus said in his familiar high-pitched voice. "He's almost twenty." Roman nodded hesitantly.
See? You're so easily replaced.
Mom got a whole new son.
She replaced you.
"Roman? Rooooman?" Remus flicked his head. "Roman!"
"Huh?- Oh- what did you say?" Roman laughed nervously. Janus was staring at him. He looked concerned.
I shouldn't have let him pick me up like that. Now he's concerned, he even commented on how light I was. How smart of me, really.
"Let's go watch some movies," Remus exclaimed. "Like we used to!"
Roman tried to look enthusiastic so Janus would stop looking at him.
"That sounds wonderful!"
Remus took his and Janus's hands and lead them to his room. It was very messy, but Roman kind of liked the clutter.
His father would never allow clutter.
Well, not Roman's clutter. They watched Hercules, it was Roman's pick.
It had only been a day or two since his father broke his cd, hadn't it?
Even so, he still missed it."Oh, sorcerer's stone!"
"Everything okay, Roman?-"
"It's my curfew! Shit, Father is going to kill me." Roman pulled on his own hair, shaking slightly.
"Hey, hey, Roman, it's okay," Remus cooed, holding Roman's hands and trying to make him stop pulling his hair. "I'll walk you home, it's alright."
Remus did walk him home. Janus had to go home about halfway through the movie, though, so he was already gone at that point.
Remus gave Roman his Hercules cd.
