Searching for friends is not hard, but finding a real one is hard.

Kahit noong nasa Pilipinas kami ay hindi ako nakahanap ng kaibigan na gusto ko, iyong pang matagalan, hindi iyong mawawala na lang dahil sa isang problema na ikaw lang ang gumawa. A friendship like that is annoying and disgusting at the same time. Imagine, you were trying your best to be kind to them like following them around and doing the things they wanted you to do, but just because they were annoyed, they will lash their anger towards you. Aside from toxicity, it's plasticity.

Annoying and disgusting.

I know my worth and I will never be going to be a slave just because of the desperation of finding a friend. I mean, I know that some of them just wanted to be my friends because of my status, my family status. My father is a known judge for years while my mother is a retired ballerina. Daddy was one of the most demanding lawyers before he became a judge. Mommy taught us not to be fooled by the people surrounded by us just because we want to have friends. She told us that real friends will come at our darkest time.

But I doubt it. Real friends will come at the most unexpected time, and maybe that time is right now.

"Answer this problem with your seatmate. I don't want any of you to complain about your seatmates because I'm not the one who chose your seatmates." Our math teacher said as she sat on the teacher's chair in front of us.

I pursed my lips as I looked at Lila, which is my seatmate. She looked at me, too, before smiling and giving me a paper. She was the only one sitting next to me since I'm the corner of the room. She was the one who picked my seat since she wanted to be my seatmate. Her cousin, Joseph, was sitting right next to her. I was at her left while Joseph was at her right.

I saw how Joseph turned his head at his cousin because of what our teacher said. His lips parted when Lila turned her back against him to face me, making me blinked in surprise. Lila didn't even bother to look at him as she started dividing the math problems for the two of us.

"I can't believe this is happening right now," Joseph whispered as he winced at his cousin.

"Uh, Lila," I called my seatmate to tell her about her cousin when she quickly cut me off.

"He can handle himself, don't worry." Lila cut me off before gazing at Joseph. "I'll be doing this pair paperwork with my friend, Joseph. Find yours,"

"Gago," Mahina ngunit malutong na mura ni Joseph sa kaniyang pinsan bago harapin ang kaniyang katabi.

"Joseph, what is gago?" Nakakunot ang noong tanong ni Lila nang marinig ang sinabi ng kaniyang pinsan. "I know that I know that word, but I forgot about it. Is that a bad word?"

"No, gago means beautiful, so, you're gago," Joseph answered without any hesitation in his tone.
