A Second Chance

Part 15 - I am the darkness

It's time...The Purge has begun.

I stepped outside my apartment, feeling a sense of readiness for The Purge. My suit had undergone substantial upgrades, and I'd been spending the days before The Purge making sure that houses were properly barricaded and relaying our plans and updates to SWAT.

To make sure that the other side was ready, I dialed The Swordsman's number, which he had given me during our previous conversation. It was important to check in with him before the impending chaos because of how big his role would be here. 

The Swordsman picked up the phone. 

"Detective?" he asked. "Are you ready?"

"It's Power-Punch," I replied, altering my voice with a surge of lightning to sound distinctly different from my civilian identity. "I'm just using Detective Walker's phone,"

"Power-Punch?!" The Swordsman gasped in surprise. "It's an honor to meet you!"

"Glad to see you've evolved since our first encounter," I responded.

"Don't worry," the Swordsman assured me. "The SWAT team and I will take care of all the fighters ranked below me."

"Good," I said. "Just remember, safeguard any civilians along with dealing with the threats."

"Of course," he affirmed. "You'll be handling Abyss, Venom, Shockwave, and Ripper, correct?"

"That's correct," 

"These four are in a different league, even from me," The Swordsman admitted. "They're the main problem in The Purge,"

"Well, I've received some significant upgrades to my suit," I remarked. "So the mission might not be as bad as it sounds."

"That's good, but still, be careful," 

"I'll make sure to," I replied. "Is the SWAT Team with you?" 

"Yeah," he confirmed. "I'm at the station with them."

"Good," I said, ready to give out the final plan. "Head out and protect the South, East, and West sides of the city - our intel suggests that all the elite fighters except those four are targeting those three parts."

"Will do," 

"If you encounter anyone ranked below 11th, engage them with SWAT and advise the SWAT on what to do. The fighters ranked 11th-7th usually attack in the north since the most rich and important parts of the city are there, but they might appear in your areas. So if you spot any of those four, notify me a.s.a.p.," I instructed. "If you don't have any additional questions, we'll commence in 5 more minutes."

"Heard you loud and clear," The Swordsman affirmed. "Let's do this."

"Right on," I replied with a determined smile as I hung up, preparing to make my way to the northern sectors of the city.

"I think it's best to tackle them in order," Mark suggested. "Starting with Abyss and Venom, then dealing with Shockwave and Ripper."

"That sounds good to me," I agreed.

The streets were eerily empty, a good thing during The Purge. No one in their right mind should venture out in this annual bloodbath. I made sure to put at least two police officers patrolling each neighborhood with high tech and armor, so all neighborhoods should be safe.

The city on the other hand has multiple big buildings, enough to hide many people. I, The Swordsman, and The SWAT Team are all fighting around these areas, so no Viper should be able to enter. If they do, then security will be guarding the buildings.
