I turned around and bolted.

Behind me, the clang of metallic boots followed, sounding a lot like some drum. He wasn't close to me, but the loud sound alone made it feel like he was breathing down my neck.

"Keep running! You just need hold him off for 30 minutes,"

"Yeah, super easy for you to say!"

I charged lightning through my legs to run faster, and I started gaining ground. I could see sparks burn the pavement, leaving a pretty cool lightning trail behind me. Just thirty minutes of running until I reach Mark's mansion.

"Jay, duck!"

A car flew above my head, exploding into pieces in front of me.

"Someone's definitely gonna be calling their insurance company..."

"It'll be fine, just keep running!"

Yeah, no... that car's gone. Nothing's fixing that anytime soon. I'd love to ponder about it more, but if I stop running, I'll end up like that car.

"You can only run for so long..."

Shoot... why did his voice sound louder.

"Don't look behind you,"

"So he's closer?"

"Just don't..."

"That means he is closer..."

Damn it, even by supercharging my feet, I could still hear his footsteps getting louder. Sometimes, I wish I was The Master of Speed. Even after supercharging my feet, I'm not nearly as fast as him - Griffin Turner would've been drinking soda at the mansion right now.

It's only been five miserable minutes, and I'm already tired. I'm literally about to get clobbered, by exhaustion and by someone else at the same time.

How does that even make sense?

"Oi, my mansion's got a private route that you can enter underground through the sewers. He's too big to fit, so you'll be able to escape,"

"You're telling me this now?!"

"I'm not the one who's out of shape - now get in the sewer,"

Putting his lack of self-awareness aside, I pushed harder and darted through the street. The sewer pipe was half hidden behind a street sign. I opened it up with no further ado.

Spartan stopped and looked at me. "You are only delaying the inevitable."

I flipped him off and dove into the pipe. It was annoying to go back in the sewers, but there was no Venom anymore, and this was The Sanction.

It was a good thing my helmet filtered out the horrible stench. I pushed through the wet concrete and toxic water, getting closer to Mark's mansion.

"He can't come here, right?"

"No, he can't, but he'll still track you,"

"What do you mean 'track me'?!"

"They have motion sensors. You can run, but you can't hide,"

"Better than ending up like that car!"

...

Running through the tunnels somehow felt just as bad as being chased by Spartan. Every second or two, I'd look around in fear of seeing Spartan or Venom standing right there. And of course, it was so gross being down here... hey, no dead bodies here is somewhat a plus!
