EVERYONE WAS FROZEN IN their place as they stare at Denzel with fear. They weren't expecting him to be there, even his children, Max and Marcus.
"Denzel, I thought you weren't going to come? Weren't you in a different country?" Dante asks, terror present in his voice and even on his face.
No one could deny how powerful this man is. Even Max wouldn't deny it despite his anger towards him. Denzel Sinclaire was a household name and a man who built his reputation with pure skill, luck, and talent. He was the reason why the Sinclaire family became what they are today.
"I was, but I flew right here as soon as I was done with my meeting. Though I was expecting a celebration, why is the atmosphere so grim?" Denzel asks, but no one dared to answer him.
Denzel looks around, and his eyes eventually fall on Max, making him realize that his youngest was actually soaking wet. It was a sight that he wasn't expecting to see, especially from him. "Who did this to you?" He asks, slowly approaching Max.
As soon as Denzel stood in front of Max, Max looks away from him. The last thing that Max wants right now is his father's help, but Denzel didn't care about what Max felt about him. Actually, he never really cared about Max's feelings from the very beginning. Whether he was angry or annoyed, Denzel treated him the same. It could be his way to show his love to them, or it could be a totally different thing, but him being his son is a fact that will never change.
"I know you're not stupid enough to spill water at yourself, but I do know that you're stupid enough to let someone do it to you," Denzel says, but Max still doesn't answer him.
Marcus was about to say something on his brother's behalf, but Étienne suddenly moves close to Denzel and whispers something to him. Denzel's expression doesn't change as he listens to what the butler has to say. And as Étienne pulls away from him, Denzel walks towards Marcus.
"Father I—"
Marcus thought that he was going to him, but then Denzel pushes him aside so he could stand in front of Dante's daughter instead, Elizabeth. The sight of him alone terrified Elizabeth to the point where her hands started to tremble. She instantly wanted to defend herself, but words couldn't even come out of her mouth.
Denzel stares down at her, and without saying a word, he slaps her.
The people at the table gasps from shock as Elizabeth touches her aching cheek. "U-Uncle...I apologize...it was an accident."
Denzel continues to keep his mouth shut as he slaps Elizabeth for the second time, terrifying the other family members even more.
Dante, even though he was the father of Elizabeth, stood his ground and looked away as his daughter was being slapped by his brother like that. But unlike him, there was a mother who couldn't bear to watch any longer. She immediately stands from her seat and bravely grabs a hold of Denzel's hand to stop him.
The action instantly makes Denzel look back at her.
"P-Please...do it to me instead. Not to my daughter," she begs.
"Bernadette, go back to your seat!" Dante scolds, but his wife wouldn't listen.
When Bernadette didn't budge, Denzel forcefully pulls his hand away from her instead and says, "Don't you dare touch me with such a hand when you haven't once lifted a finger to help this family other than to please my brother you call a husband."
