Chapter 6

There you were, now outside of the castle, not knowing where to go first. When a neat little idea popped into your head. Chris may know where can I begin searching, I mean he has grown to know Miranda, you talked a lot about her.

"Chris?" I need your help"

"Y/n are you ok? Do you want me to go there? Because I-"
"Chris it's ok." You chuckled. "You see Miranda wants me to find her house, but I don't have any idea."

"Yeah i know exactly where she is. She has to be near the megamycete Y/n , if she is the one controlling it there you go, she's has to be there. Now... do you remember the cave where you placed it?".

"Mmm i think so... thank you Chris you always save me" you said excited.

"Y/n, be careful... if she is the one causing all this madness, you know. I just want you to be safe".

"Thank you Chris, I know, I'll be cautious, now I must go it's getting dark".

That cave, how could you forget it? You carefully thought about some place where no one ever could imagine. You crawled along a wrought-iron fence, tamping down a layer of snow leaves covered in blood. A ghoulish howl drifted down from above. It wasn't the sound what you were most frightened of. The footsteps trampled over the grass behind you, but whether they were near or far you couldn't tell. A shout of pursuit cut through the mist, and you hurried the pace. Instinctively you knew it was time to take you handgun out of your bag, it was too dark to see clearly, the eerie fog casting grew quicker and quicker in front of your eyes.

A path showed itself, and you instinctively ran towards it. Slipped between two scarecrows, made of...real people? "This place is sick.", Out on the other side, something was waiting for you. A big silhouette, what resembled a large wolf like dog, you tripped backwards. As you fell, you realized your mistake: He was huge, after a couple of minutes you could manage to defeat the beast. 'Great I look like crap now.'

As you approached Miranda's home the path became so hard to walk into. There were rocks , mud, fallen threes. Anything you could imagine. The ride  was getting narrow but this is Miranda, to make things easy, it's not her style.

The path was now getting higher, there were mountains. You let out a sigh, you were exhausted, freezing , hungry. But your eyes started to shine when you visualized smoke coming out of a chimney in the middle of the mountains. The cave with the megamycete was inside one of those mountains. Your heart was pounding trying to find it's way outside your body.

A black gate appeared in front of you, it was opened. You rose your sight and there she was, all the weight of her body laid on her shoulder by the doorframe, as she saw you she got into the house. The house screamed Miranda, mysterious , dark but yet so beautiful...

You stood in the doorway contemplating the house, the snow coming inside the house, through the wooden floor.

"Hello? Are you going to stay there and make my house turn into a an ice field?" Miranda asked with a smirk on her lips. You tried to figure out her expression but as always, it was unreadable.

You closed the door behind you. The house was cozy yet very comfortable there was a fireplace burning, a couch , books all over the place, wooden floors and walls. It was really warm.

"Amazed darling?"

"Actually, yes" you replied taking a seat on the big couch.

"What? Did you expected me to live in a Dungeon?" She smirked and took your parka from your lap and hung it up next to the door.

She glanced at you, you seemed like you've lost a war on your way here. Your hair was in a messy bun, your face covered in mud and a few scratches from the previous encounter with the beast.

"Are you staying there again like an idiot or do you want to take a shower?"

She disappeared through the stairs, you supposed you had to follow her to get to the bathroom, so you did. The second floor was colder, three doors decorated the long hallway.

"So you don't live alone here?" You asked confused.

"I do live alone. This is the guest room, your room for tonight" She pointed with her head to the door next to the big window. "This is my own room and that other door it's the main bathroom. Don't worry I have my own inside my room". She said raising an eyebrow.

The bathroom ceiling was white, the walls a serene blue with black details. The room smelled of lilies, fabric softener, and a soft touch of leather. A wooden chair on pushed up beside the bathtub  balanced two flower arrangements and two black towels.
You got rid of your filthy clothes and almost throw yourself into the warm water. "What am I even doing here? I've fallen again with her stupid words".
After 15 minutes you were finished, already feeling your body completely relaxed. You were now wearing Miranda's black cardigan and joggers. After brushing your hair you walked through the narrow hallways and heard the sound of water running , coming out of her room . 'She must be taking a shower' you thought. So you continued your way downstairs.

This time alone in her house was perfect, you wanted to know what she's been doing after all this time. She wasn't very keen on technology , there were no vestige of a TV , air conditioner, any charger. Nothing.

It was dark I mean it was almost midnight, the fireflies lighting up the trees in gold outside, and the fragrance of warm, musky pine overwhelming the air, it's not hard to trick my mind into believing i've transported myself into a completely different century. The windows, long and narrow, and protest with an obnoxiously loud groan when pushed open.

You attention was drawn to the fireplace, there were two small portraits, you picked up one of the portraits and it was... you? Why on earth would she have a photo of you in her living room? You glanced at the remaining picture. She was holding a little girl in her arms. Did she have a daughter?.

"Sticking your nose into other people's business dear?" Miranda said coming down from the stairs, she was dressed all in black now, no sign of "Mother Miranda", just Miranda.
She approached to you and took the portrait of you out of you hands. You smirked at her reaction. Her cheeks as red as Lady Dimitrescu's favorite lipstick.

"Feeling sentimental?" she raised an eyebrow.

"You ain't running away from me, are you?" She spoke.

"No." your heart lifted, followed by the sensation of your stomach plummeting to your knees. You tried unsuccessfully to pull your sleeves down because Miranda was looking into your tattoo.

We did that tattoo together the day that picture was taken. It was just our names in each others wrists.

"I wish 'no' got an address years ago. Don't you think? It would have been easier to me"

I stood, but swayed violently when blood rushed to my veins.
