Chapter 16

For a split second it occurred to me what was Miranda doing but i tried to distract myself and I gazed at the tent window, combination of nightfall and drizzling rain cast a gloomy, uninviting feeling all around. I couldn't tell what was in Miranda's head yesterday but I knew Ethan's life was in danger. I wanted to go after Miranda but I had a lot of work to do, not only at the tent but also with the project.

Ceremony Site

"Well...How should I kill you Ethan Winters?" Miranda said and transformed into the old witch from the village, then Mia.

"Fuck you, you crazy bitch!" Ethan said trying to set free.

"Why did Rose come to be? Was it because of her parents? And you are truly a special case. But I've learned all I can from you. Your worth as a lab rat has run out." Miranda said laughing and piercing Ethan's stomach with her root.

"Miranda, you coward! Come out and face me!"

"Don't worry, Ethan. Your death will come quick. You will join the Megamycete's records." She said and ripped Ethan's heart from his chest.

"I will make sure to sample your blood for later. Once dawn breaks the ceremony will be complete, and I will become her true mother. Bound for eternity in blood."

Ethan remained still, laid on the ground...dead.

"I've waited so long. But dreams really can come true. Vessel or not, I can't wait to see my true child again." Miranda said and vanished throughout the shadows.-

I was about to finish my work for today, only 30 minutes left. I leaned backwards on the swivel chair and took a sip of water but almost chocked when I overheard Chris next to me:

"Captain, I've confirmed the death of Ethan Winters. I wasn't able to retrieve the body, but I've recorded evidence." Said someone on the other side of the radio. Unfortunately, it was loud enough for me to hear it.

"Share your screen and I'll go over the situation. My team and I were careless. Yesterday we took down the transformed Miranda But we didn't kill her." Chris said through the radio.

"Who knew she could take being a corpse?"

"Since Miranda could've infected Ethan, I forcefully took him and Rose with us. But the vehicle they were riding in was attacked. When I got to the wreck, Ethan and Rose were gone. The last time I was able to contact Ethan... I heard Miranda's voice. She murdered him. And she is not gonna get away with it. Goddammit, when does it end?"

While I waited for Chris to end the call I finished my work for today.

"Chris w-wait. Don't do anything to her. I have it under control! I already have the woman the embryo is inside her, her name is Elena and she lives here, in the village. Please Chris I beg you" You said tightening Chris arms.

"Y/n you can't control everything. Stop this, now. Miranda has to die, she is a monster! What's wrong with you?"

"Chris, if I manage to give Rose back to you, would you let her live? Please do it for me, you know how much she means to me. You're the boss now, you can decide."

"Y/n..."

"Do it for our friendship? For all that we've been through?"

"Fuck Y/n, you're lucky that I love you and I love to see you happy. But if that crazy witch does something else, I will not hesitate Y/n. This is your last chance, I want Rose for tomorrow, without a scratch. Understood?"
