Chapter 17

The following morning, I pulled myself out of bed, after carefully removing Miranda's arm from my hips. I glanced at Miranda, who was peacefully sleeping. I went to the bathroom and after a quick bath, I applied undereye concealer and mascara.

With my heavy backpack full of weapons, I  managed to arrive at the stronghold and pull up two levers to gain entry inside. Thoughts invading my head again, I continued to navigate around inside, everything was infested with endless amounts of Lycans. As I entered deeper I found myself into a battle with what it seemed like a bigger Lycan, or maybe their leader. After killing him, I did some more exploring and found an interesting thing that could help me defeat the other beast that was now standing in front of me, ready to devour me at any moment. What I found was a GM 79 Grenade Launcher. I moved around him , my body hiccuped as I swayed because the grenade launcher was a little too heavy for me . It took me almost five rounds to defeat the beast.

Exhausted, I grabbed the four flasks from my backpack and placed all of them in the altar and carried the Giant's Chalice to the other pedestal.

After ten minutes Rose's heart started to beat again, and the yellow flasks were now illuminated . Thank god, I should be able to take her out or here, my Jeep is not too far away.

Rose emerged from the sludge, I carried her In my arms, carefully. I felt bad for her, she's just six months old and she'd already lost her dad.

"Hi Rose, I'll take you to your mom. Don't worry baby everything is going to be ok" Even tough she didn't understand what I was saying, my soothing words seemed to calm her down, she wasn't crying anymore. I held her closer to me and I drove her to Chris, I cried all the way to the tent ,most of all, I cried because I was at a complete and utter loss as to how to deal with my emotions right now.
I exited the car and walked slowly to the tent. Little Rose was sleeping in my arms, when I handed her to Chris she started to cry, I was leaving the tent but Chris grabbed my arm.

"Y/n..."

"Chris"

"Thank you, for bringing Rose safe. Take care, please." He said but then furrowed his eyebrows
"Y/n, have you been crying?"

"I'll se you tomorrow ,Chris" you dismissed him and left the tent. When you were about to get inside your car, someone hugged you from behind.

"Y/n! You saved my baby! How can I thank you?" Mia said still hugging you.

"It's fine Mia, you don't need to thank me" you were at a lost of sympathy, touch.

"Wait! Y/n! Where's Ethan!?"

"Mia, I have to go now" you were trying to avoid the inevitable.

"No. You can't go! Please Y/n"

"Mia, go inside the tent, it's freezing here"

"Not before you tell me where Ethan is. I know he wouldn't abandon us! Tell me what's going on!"

"He's gone! I tried! I'm sorry..." Chris said appearing behind you two.

Y/n got back inside her black muddy Jeep and drove away.

Pain enduring her heart, shaking her head.
Countless tears streaming down her face.
Her love towards Miranda was unsurpassable, but yet painful, very painful.
Tired of faking a smile everyday, pretending everything was fine.
Pretending she could save all and sundry.
Her broken soul hiding behind her kindness.
She promised herself, not to go after her again. But promises are made to be broken right?

You sauntered into the kitchen to find Miranda already seated at the table. With a cup of coffee between  her hands, and her hair down, which was a nice reminder of her transcendent beauty. Glancing at me over the top of her mug, she smiled.

"Morning, love"

I slid into the seat opposite and poured coffee into my own mug. "Hey" I replied, almost inaudible.

"What's wrong Y/n?, if it is about Rose, I know what you've done but I'm not mad I trust you."

"I-It's" you mumbled holding your tears back.

"Yes?"

But before opening your mouth you ran into her arms, she let the coffee mug on the table and hold you on her lap like a baby. You buried your face in her chest. Giving up against the constant battle between you and your own mind, hugging her like it was the last time. She caressed your cheek and wiped the tears from your eyes. "Shh...I'm here" she said and rested her head on yours.

"Talk to me Y/n, what's it?"

"Do you still love me or are you dumping me when you get w-what you want?" You said with your face still hiding in her chest.

"Remember when you asked me which was my biggest fear, and I never answered? My biggest fear is losing you. My heart...it belongs to you. I don't feel nothing at all, but when I am with you it starts functioning."

That's it. Those words coming out from her mouth was all you needed to continue, everyone sees her like a monster. Maybe she's a monster after all, but no one really understood her, why she is like this, it's how she learned it. The difference is that you know that behind that golden mask and golden claws, there's a broken woman, a woman who life had no mercy with.

Miranda carried Y/n bridal style to the couch. And hold her in the comfort of her arms.

"Miranda, i haven't told you. But Elena's body responded perfectly fine"

"I knew you could do this Y/n. Thank you...for everything." She said and kissed your lips.

The only light flickered from the lit candles. The flames illuminated the first several feet down the corridor, but after that, I could see nothing through the suffocating darkness.

"Miranda" you said lifting your head to see her in the eyes. "Let's stay here all day?".

"Someone is clingy today" She chuckled, holding you with one hand and taking the last sip of coffee with the other one. "Yes of course".

We tidied up the kitchen, and watched a little TV (yes I bought her a TV, this house is so boring without technology, she refused at first but then I found her watching a movie at 4 a.m)

Rain was hitting the tall black windows, before going upstairs you left Miranda's side to make popcorn, it has been years since the last time you ate those.
After a two movies, we went upstairs to her bedroom. The room was, surprisingly, organized.
Miranda placed her arm around my waist and rested her head on my chest, I smiled , astonished. She isn't the type who demonstrates physical love. But I was so happy she was slowly opening to me.

"I guess you don't hate me as much as you said yesterday" you said.

"Shut up darling" you laughed at her response, and she kissed you again.
