Chapter eleven

I stood there while Lou worked. Just thinking. My gaze fell on the wall. I stared at it. It was big, tall, huge. Covered in vines. I stared at it for ages, just thinking when suddenly Audrey and Lena appeared from the door, running. I walked over to then. By the time I got there, they had stopped.
"hey greenie!"
"what's up newbie?"
"I remembered my name!" I said smiling at them. I didn't know Lena or Audrey at all but I felt very relaxed around them. I could also feel that they trusted me.
"It's Newt!"
"Nice!"
"Newt it is then!" A loud scream came from the med-jack building. I'd got used to Annie's screams by now. But Audrey gave Lena a worried look and mumbled something in her ear.
"Yea....sure.....ok" Lena said back.
"Better be off then! Bye...Newt!" Audrey gave me a warm smile and starting jogging over to the med-jack building.
"So...greenie...follow me!" Lena said walking over in the direction of the forest at the end of the glade. I did as I was told.
"What did you do today then?" She asked.
"Med-jacks....well I just handed out bottles if water...but still..." Lena laughed.
"They can't let greenies do anything else...being a med jack is hard at the moment...." She trailed off.
"Why?" She laughed again.
"Come on Newt! I'm not dumb! You know I can't-"
"Can't tell you" I cut her off glumly. Why did no one want to tell me anything? What was going on? We'd walked up though the forest and to a small hut with a locked door that I'd never seen before. She stopped here.
"Sorry newt....can't let you in here..." She looked at the floor.
"Why n-"
"I just can't! Ok!" She said, angrily. Newt wondered why she had suddenly changed moods. What had he down.
"I'm sorry....it's just...I'm a little stressed right now" she said apologetically, putting her hands through her hair.
"It's ok, don't worry about it" I said.
"Ok, see ya then Newt!" She said. I smiled as she unlocked the door and walked inside. She closed it so quickly I didn't get a chance to see anything.
