The glade! Finally! Tommy dragged me the final stretch. Then we collapsed on the floor. The next day was a blur of shouts, people and bandages. All I remember is waking up the next morning, in one of the med-jacks' beds, with my leg bandaged up. It didn't hurt so much. But my head did. I was alone in the room and I suddenly missed Tommy and Flo like crazy. Where they alright? I didn't know how long I lay there for but at some point Sophia walked in. She was panting.
"Newt!" She collapsed in the chair.
"How...are...I'm sorry...it's just...Flo...And....Thomas..."
"Are they ok?" I asked worriedly
"Yea...their fine...Well few minor injures...but other than that" I relaxed.
She got up and focused her attention to my leg.
"Well...it's bad...your gonna have a limp for...I don't even know how long...but the pain should go...within a couple of days" I didn't really care at this point.
"By the way...congrats on the whole maze thing...but your in trouble man...ya know...people are talking.." I hadn't even thought about the trouble I would be in. But that wasn't what I was worried about right now. I was worried about my friends. Sophia got up.
"Hey, Sophia..." She turned around.
"Can I go see Flo and Tommy?"
She gave me a conical look.
"Tommy? What is this?" She smiled
"Can I?"
"Well I guess...but your leg-"
"I'll be fine"
"Ok I've got to go"
"Bye"
"Bye" She walked out. As soon as the door closed, I got up. Pain rushed through my body. I took a deep breath in. And got up. My leg and my head hurt like mad. But I had to see them. I got up and limped out. There were so many doors. The first two rooms were empty. The third one had a builder in it. I managed to limp through the door of the fourth room..and their was Flo sitting on the bed. She had her head in her hands. And looked up when I entered. She smiled.
"Hey"
"Hey" I sat down on the bed next to her.
"How's your leg?"
"Fine" I was lying ,but I didn't want her to worry about me.
"How are you?"
"My head.." She looked up, their were scratches all over her face and a big gash on her forehead. It looked painful. "Um Newt...thank you...for...for...saving me"
"I don't know what your talking about I didn't-"
She looked me in the eyes...
"Just...thank you...ok?"
"Ok" silence fell in the room.
"I...should go..."
"Yea...bye then..."
"Bye"
I limped out. The next room had Tommy in. He was asleep. I sat down on the chair. He had loads of cuts on his hands and his cheek had what looked like a a giant scratch on it. I looked at him. And was again reminded how peaceful he looked when he slept. When I looked at him. Everything was ok again. I could have sat there for days.
