chapter four. death by a thousand cuts.

angelina phan had never thought about the idea of liking oliver cambridge.

and she's being honest! ever since the eighth grade, she's never even considered it. it was right before high school. why damage a friendship of a couple years just before a major change.

oliver cambridge considered the idea that he might like angelina phan.

and he's not even sure of it! he liked her in seventh grade, but then the whole thing with hayden happened, and she was going through a lot of emotions. he needed to be a best friend, not a boyfriend. but now, he's not so sure.

but now, he's thinking about it. a lot.

angelina didn't like feelings. it was messy, annoying, and honestly it got in the way of everything. she was always more of a perfectionist, rather putting her school work first over majority of other stuff going on in her life. angelina even liked perfecting her songs, even though they wouldn't be published ever.

ranboo didn't have time for feelings. he was busy more often, now - and he was running out of lies to tell angelina on why he couldn't hang out for a while, considering he streamed everyday. he wasn't much of a perfectionist, and he was slacking on homework more and more, constantly asking angelina for homework answers.

("you need to stop playing games so much, my guy"), is what she'd tell him each time he asked for the classwork, but she'd give it to him every time. she'd much rather he passed than failed. angelina wanted them to get in the same university.

speaking of university, angelina needed to plan more. actually, now was a perfect time, considering she was dozing off in the middle of the counselor's office. school had been going by faster than she liked, and angelina knew the end of senior year was going to come quicker rather than slower.

"angelina, you're with me, correct?" mrs jenkins snapped angelina out of her mind, making her come back to reality. right - she was in a meeting. "this is your future, miss phan. i'd appreciate it if you stayed more interested."

"right, i'm so sorry," angelina apologized frantically, taking a sip of her snapple. "where were we?"

mrs jenkins opened some sort of book, which angelina saw her name on. must've been her transcripts, or maybe grades? honestly, the raven haired girl had completely forgot the topic of conversation.

"according to these report cards, current grades, and extra curriculars, you got a real shot at some ivy league schools, angelina. where are you thinking? stanford? perhaps harvard or yale?" mrs jenkins brought the subject back to the table.

"i was thinking ... nyu, possibly?" angelina said. "i was born in new york, it'd be nice to visit - and maybe live there again. my best friend and i plan on sticking together."

"oh that's nice, honey," mrs jenkins smiled. "mind saying what their name is? i can compare you two if you'd like, so you can shoot for a school you'd both be able to get into."

angelina cringed softly. she knew ranboo's grades. they weren't necessarily ... excellent. sighing in some sort of doubtfulness, she continued once more.

"oliver. cambridge," she sighed. "he used to be on the volleyball team? everyone calls him ranboo, even though i'm the one who came up with the nickname in the first place —" she rambled.

mrs jenkins stopped what she was doing for a moment. angelina knew ranboo had been in the same seat she was in a few days ago, but she didn't really dig on what had happened during their meeting. angelina was confused, to say the least.
