"W-what?" April stuttered as her heart immediately dropped. Her face paled and her eyes became tearful.
Snape tightly closed his eyes and hung his head low. She was never meant to find out... not like this. He had spent eighteen, glorious years watching her grow up into the incredible witch she is now. Everything he had done was for her. She saved him when he was at his lowest. The ultimate light to his darkness...
He exhaled loudly through his nose, as he tried to swallow the lump that was building in his throat. His expression was painful - like his world was simply crashing down before his eyes.
"I am so so sorry" he whispered. His voice was hoarse and his eyes began to glass over.
"W-what-what do you mean? I don't understand" April asked in the same soft and painful tone he had used. She was staring, mouth agape as her bottom lip began to tremble.
She had never expected this. She was so in shock as she simply stared at the broken man before her. Eighteen years... had all been a lie.
"I-I can't do this-"
"Y-you can't do this? How am I supposed to know the truth?" She pleaded as tears were running freely down both of their cheeks.
"I can't, please. You're all I have ever had" he sniffed as his lip trembled and his head hung low.
"Please I need to know" she whispered as she nodded trying to swallow the lump in her throat.
"I can't be the one to do that. I'm s-so so sorry but I just can't, alright? Albus will t-tell you everything. B-but please don't make me" he hiccuped.
She was his entire life. He couldn't be the one to break it to her, that her life and been an utter lie. It would be too painful... he couldn't witness her break down in front of him due to the fact he had kept that from her. He couldn't bare to see her resent him.
"S-so Albus will tell me? Then will you p-please talk to me, after t-that?" she asked as she watched the man in front of her hang his head low in shame.
"I promise"
April had numbly made her way to the Headmaster's office. It was late and all students had retired for the night in the Great Hall. She however, couldn't bare to wait any longer... not even till the morning. She needed answers. She needed some sort of comfort to ease her racing heart rate.
She knew why Snape couldn't bare to tell her himself. They were inseparable. They had spent her entire life, just them two. They were content and happy. She knew he couldn't be the one to explain everything - he would be just as broken as her. He couldn't watch her turn her back on him. She was his everything...
April had whispered the password to the Stairwell Gargoyle and hesitantly made her way to the Headmaster's office. Knocking three, shallow times, when she heard a slight "come in" as she entered.
"Ah, my dear, I thought I'd be expecting you. Please, take a seat" he gently said as she sat in front of him and give him a small, soft smile.
"I-I was told you'd be able to tell me about my biological p-parents" she hoarsely whispered.
"Of course, I knew this day would come. But please, don't blame Severus, I was the one who wanted to keep this from you. Severus begged me to tell you once you turned eighteen but for safety reasons I had to decline his proposal" he stated, peering over his half moon spectacles.
"N-no, I-I would never. Is t-that why he couldn't tell me himself?" she asked
"Yes. Severus wouldn't be able to see you hate him for the choices he has done. You mean a great deal to him. Much more than you think".
