April woke to the feeling of light kisses being peppered along the skin of her neck. The smell of tea, parchment and chocolate filled her senses as her eyes began to flutter open slightly.
"Rem?" She whispered whilst groaning at the feeling of her tired muscles.
"Try not to move much darling, you'll still be in a lot of pain" he kindly stated whilst smoothing down the top of her hair.
It was still dark outside, probably early hours of the morning. The pair were tightly enveloped together in the small proximity of the singular hospital bed. Their legs intertwining together under the sheets whilst the air was crowded with that nostalgic, disinfected fragrance that surround the infirmary.
Ever since Remus carried April into the hospital wing after the incident late in the evening, he never left her side. He simply watched whilst Madam Pomfrey scanned over her injuries and prepared various strength replenishing remedies that would help with mending the broken bones that she endured.
By the impact of how strongly April's body had collided with the ground, her entire back was covered completely in dark colours. Luckily, Snape was able to restart her heart, as well as heal many bones that would have left the witch in a more critical state if they weren't.
Although now, her muscles were sore and aching, as well as a few broken bones, her lungs were the only location that were giving her any real discomfort. The tightness she felt when breathing was nearly unbearable.
"How are you feeling?" Remus asked whilst staring down at the girl who was tightly wrapped up in his arms.
"I've felt better" April chuckled lightly, soon after groaning at the pain that was shooting through her organs.
"Yes, I don't doubt that you have" He answered with a fond smile whilst shaking his head at her antics.
The couple then fell into a comfortable silence, both just engulfing each other tightly, whilst remembering the actions of the previous day...
Remus was still shook up about yesterday's events. He had never acknowledged how much the witch surrounded his life until that very moment when it all got took from him. He simply couldn't imagine living without her. He watched as his world crumbled around him as he watched her lifeless body give no indication that she was alive.
April noticed how Remus was in a slight trance as his arms subconsciously wrapped tighter around her waist. She knew exactly how he was recalling what happened yesterday. Although she understood how worried and devastated he had felt in that moment, she didn't want him to slip back into those memories. She was alive and safe in his arms.
Exactly where she belonged...
"Don't think about it, I'm here. I'm alright love" she reassuringly whispered into the side of his face as she landed a soft kiss onto his cheek.
Remus tightly closed his eyes to absorb the feeling of her in his arms. That reassurance was all he needed.
"I know, but you don't get it. You died April, your heart stopped beating... and in that moment I felt like the earth was shattering around me" he said back in the same tone whilst hiding his face into her neck whilst inhaling her sweet smell.
April sucked in a breath, she has ever realised that her actions would now affect the both of them. They were a pair. A couple. They couldn't afford to be selfish, they needed each other.
She tightened her hold around him as she heard slight sniffles come from the wolf. In this moment she knew he was crying. The skin in between her neck slowly began to dampen as his tears started to pool in her crevice.
