"Sire, their response has arrived." A servant handed me the letter, bowed and excused himself from the King's presence. He opened the letter and read carefully through it. The handwriting was flawless and it stated that the King come down to the pack to sign the peace treaty and become allies. It seemed reasonable to him so he sent his messenger with the message that he will be arriving that day at 6.
He looked at the grand clock in his room whose hands struck ten. He stood up and strolled outside the castle. Everyone else were already standing there to greet his mother. He stood in the middle, toying with the button of his cuffs. The carriage pulled up outside the gate and the doors were opened. The servants rushed to forward to help her down.
Standing at five feet six inches, she was gorgeous with her caramel colored hair tied up in a French knot and her glass green eyes twinkling with life. She wore a green and blue ombre grown which flared around and stood contrast on her pale skin. After her, followed her plaything Lord Joseph Carter. He was a tall and gaunt man with jet black hair and dark eyes. He was properly dressed but not as dressy as Lady Jocelyn Smith.
Jocelyn smiled at her son and rejected the maids' help with her dress. She walked forward and hugged her son. Edward was stiff, patting her back awkwardly. "I'm so glad to see you son. " He nodded his head tightly, drawing his mouth in a thin line.
Her smile wavered slightly but she moved on to her sister, Aunt Malorie and hugged her happily. "How have you been sister?"
"Busy taking care of your son."
She laughed. "I'm grateful to you for that." She then went on to shake hands with the other servants and even shook hands with General Krugan.
"I see nothing has changed." She said as she took in his room. His room was simple for a King with bare beige walls, a big bed in the middle with plain white sheets. There were three doors in his room. One led to the grand bathroom, one to the closet and the other outside. There was huge space in between the bed and closet so a small table and two high-backed chairs were placed there.
"Not really. Luxury doesn't seem to please me anymore." He said as a matter-of-fact.
"Oh my son. You should get married soon."
He rolled his eyes. "I will not be able to keep her happy. I do not feel emotions the way everyone else does."
"You used to be a lively boy when you were little. What happened now?" His mother asked, her expression a mix of sadness and pity.
He sighed. "Life happened."
She was quite for a while. "Anyway, what about the werewolf pack here? I heard it is one of the strongest packs."
His eyes softened momentarily before becoming cold and indifferent like before. "I have sent them a peace treaty. They have accepted it and we will be signing the treaty two days from now in their place."
"Well done my son. I have asked your siblings so many times for this but they always declined. It is good to see you taking the first step. But why did you agree to sign the treaty at their place?"
"I know the Alpha of the Lunar pack. We had met a long time ago."
"Oh really? Who is he?"
"Its a she. Serephina Black."
Her mother nodded in wonder. "I see. First female Alpha I suppose."
She wanted to keep their conversation but Edward was done for now. He stood up. "I advise you to rest in your room before lunch. You must be tired from the long journey." His mother didn't want to leave but obliged anyway. She stood up and reluctantly left.
He went down to the forest to the exact same spot where he always went. He secretly hoped that he would meet her there. She looked so stunning in simple clothes. Like werewolves had mates, vampires had sweethearts. Sounds cringy but it was rare among them unlike werewolves where everyone had mates. He knew he would never have a sweetheart because he had committed many sins before and he still does. He never knew what it felt like to be in love. Luxury or gestures did not please him or make him feel any sort of emotion. But it was different with her. That day when he saw her, he forgot all about his own problems and craved to be in her intoxicating presence once again.
"Do you come down here everyday?"
He seemed to wake up from his trance. "Oh, Lady Black. I did not expect to see you here."
"Two things. First, please call me Alpha Black and second, you did not answer my question. Do you come down here everyday?"
He was taken aback. He wasn't used to anyone talking to him so fearlessly. He was used to people fearing him and they had every right to do so. "You are quite fearless, aren't you?"
