A/N: Words: 758. Hella short one shot, but I had a sudden burst of inspiration to write this. So it is here. I should be working on my Finnpoe fic, but yolo. ANYWAYS, enjoy!

Sam shakes his head, sobbing uncontrollably. Images flash before his eyes. Sarah cradling the boys, all 3 bodies limp. And lifeless. Sam feels useless, unable to help them. Blood trickles from Sarah's forehead, and Sam sobs harder, begging, pleading, for this to stop. Next, he sees Steve and Natasha, bodies limp, cold. The shield thrust into his chest. A bullet hole in Nat's head. Sam gasps, his eyes wide in shock. That's his shield, and right now it's cutting through Steve Rogers, his best friend's, stomach. He tries to blink away the image. It works, but comes with a price. The worst thing he has ever been forced to see in his life. Bucky lay on their shared bed, blood trickling down his head, his arm destroyed, useless. Like how Sam feels. Useless. His once bright steel blue eyes gone grey and cold. Lifeless. Sam sobs even harder, wondering if he'll run out of tears at this rate. "Buck. No, please, I need you" he whispers, gutted. Then he hears it. Riley's voice. Once a voice that whispered comforting words, now sighs in disgust. "It was all your fault, Sam," the voice tells him. Sam shakes his head frantically, because no, it wasn't. It couldn't have been. The words repeat a few more times, which leaves Sam sobbing harder. "No, no, no" Sam whispers, not believing it. Refusing to.

"Sam"

Sam shoots up in bed, wiping the cold sweat from his forehead. He doesn't stop the tears that fall from his eyes, still shaking his head in denial. "Sam" Bucky repeats, his voice drenched in worry. His eyes are soft, understanding. "Sam, baby, what happened? If you wanna tell me" Bucky asks, knowing not to push it. Sam cries harder, remembering everything he was shown. Bucky. Sarah. AJ. Cass. Steve. Nat. Riley's voice.

Bucky shuffles closer to his husband, intertwining their hands. Sam smiles briefly through his tears, still in shock. "Wanna lie back down?" Bucky asks, still taking it slow, knowing enough about nightmares to know what to say. Knowing enough about Sam to know what to say. Sam nods his head, letting Bucky pull him onto his chest. Sam sighs, tears falling still, but less violently. Bucky kisses the top of his husband's head, rubbing circles on Sam's arm.

"I, I saw Sarah and the boys. Dead. Steve and Nat. Also gone" Sam explains, his voice shaky and quiet. Bucky understands. Sam takes a deep breath. "You. You were... gone" Sam tells him, crying harder again. Bucky nods, pulling Sam closer. "I'm right here, Sammy, don't worry, we're all alright. I got you" Bucky reassures him, his voice soothing and calm. Sam shakes his head, his tears being soaked up by Bucky's shirt. "It was my fault," Sam mutters through tears. Bucky shakes his head, even though he knows Sam can't see him. "Says who?" Bucky asks, sincere and voice soaked in worry.

"Says Riley"

Bucky takes a deep breath, knowing how that'll affect Sam. "No. He would never say that. You know it. I know it. Wanna know why?" Bucky asks, his voice soft. Sam nods, signalling to Bucky to continue. "Because it's not true. It's not your fault Nat's gone. It's not your fault Riley's gone. You're so damn strong, Sam. You help people every day. You could never be blamed for something like that. You're the best Cap there's been. You're caring, you're understanding. And yeah, stuff like this happens, but you have the strength to continue. And you have even more strength to face it as often you do. It isn't fair, but you can handle it, and, Sam, doll, that's one of the reasons why I love you" Bucky explains, a small smile on his lips.

Sam soaked in every word, not knowing someone could care for him that much, and wraps his arms around the taller man's torso. His tears still fall, but he needed to hear that. "Thank you, sweetheart" Sam whispers, a genuine 'thank you', his heart feeling fuller and his head less fuzzy. "I love you so much, Jamie" Sam tells his husband, even though the amount of time they've said it, you'd think the word has lost meaning. No. Bucky smiles wide, kissing the top of Sam's head again. "I love you too, Sammy" Bucky feels the man smile against his skin, and he smiles even wider.

After a few minutes of Sam listening to Bucky's heartbeat, a calming sound, he falls asleep. A deep, nightmare-less sleep. Bucky's arm wrapped around him. He feels safe. Safe.
