he'd been gone for a week when the first postcard had come through the door.

as much as betty tried to get time off of work to accompany jughead on his book tour, her boss wouldn't budge, so she reluctantly had to stay behind for the few weeks that he would be gone. it was upsetting, of course, knowing she wouldn't be there when her boyfriend for this huge part of career. though what stung even more was that she wouldn't be able to see him for a whole month.

she had driven him to the airport and walked him all the way to his gate, and held onto him until the very last moment before he had to leave. he had kissed her, promising to call and keep in touch, and then he'd been gone. and she was alone.

betty crouched on the floor by the front door to pick up the brightly coloured postcard, the back a photo of new york, where jughead was starting his book tour. raising back up to stand she flipped the card over and smiled softly when she was met with her boyfriends recognisable scruffy writing over it.

hey juliet, just got to new york when i bought this. thought it was pretty cool. i'm really excited for the book tour but i miss you so much. i promise i'll be back soon, and you can have me all to yourself again. you look beautiful as always, shame i can't see you in person. love you lots, my darling; jug xxx

betty smiled softly to herself as she traced her finger over the writing on the postcard before she moved back further into the house, propping the postcard up on the windowsill next to a vase of flowers so that she could see it.

"i  got your postcard." betty told him with a fond smile as she watched him through the screen of her laptop.

"oh, yeah, thought you could put it in the shrine you're making of me since you miss me so much." jughead smirked a little and chuckled, a sound that betty already missed hearing in person. she missed hearing the rumble and feeling the vibrations through his chest whenever he laughed and they were cuddling, her ear right above his heart.

"mm, it's going right next to the spoon you ate your breakfast with the morning of your flight." betty playfully rolled her eyes and couldn't help but smile more as jughead laughed again, happy to see his smile despite it being through a screen.

"can't wait to see it when i get back," he joked and smiled, before he sighed and leaned his chin against his knuckles. "i miss you. i can't wait to be home."

"me either, jug. i miss you too." betty said softly, smiling slightly despite the slight pang of hurt in her chest that came with knowing how much she really missed him.

this was going to be a long few weeks.

the next postcard came the following week, a few days after jughead had arrived in harrisburg for the next part of his book tour. betty smiled and sat on the floor by the front door as she observed the picture of the capital before she flipped it over to see her boyfriends handwriting on the back.

hi juliet, another one for the shrine. i'm missing you too much already, why'd you let me go on this book tour? it's nice to travel but i'd much rather have you with me. your boss sucks. let me know when you get this, take a picture of the shrine for me once you've put it up. i love you to the moon and back sweetheart; jug xxx

betty carefully lifted herself off of the floor with the postcard in hand, walking back into the kitchen as she quickly scanned over his scrawl again. finding a smirk creeping onto her face she picked up the other postcard from the windowsill (next to the flowers veronica had gotten her for her boyfriend "leaving her", even if she did appreciate the pink roses) and placed both of the postcards on the small kitchen table. grabbing a spoon out of the drawer she dropped it onto the table in front of the postcards. five minutes later, after lighting two tea lights and positioning them on the table too, she took a picture of the "shrine" before she sent it to jughead.
