The first time Jughead Jones fell in love with Betty Cooper was on his first day at Riverdale Elementary School. He clung to his mother's leg the whole time he was being walked inside, not wanting to let go. He didn't see why he needed to leave home, he wanted to stay and play with his toy cars all day as he did all the time. His mother kept saying how great of a time he'd have and how he'd make so many friends, but Jughead didn't want friends. He wanted his cars.
When he'd finally been pried off of his mother's leg and she left, he went and sat in the corner of the room where nobody else was, tears building in his baby blue eyes as he slumped against the wall, grabbing a plastic apple from one of the toy boxes and running his fingers along the surface.
He couldn't understand why he was being sent away to school. He was happy at home. A scowl settled on his young face as he brought a fist up to wipe his eyes angrily, sniffing loudly and huffing in an attempt to stop crying. He was a big boy, and big boys didn't cry.
"Are you okay?"
Jughead looked up from the plastic apple in his hands to see a girl stood in front of him, blue hues meeting big green curious ones. This girl looked like a princess out of one of the storybooks his mother would read him. She had pretty blonde hair that was in pigtails either side of her head, a pink bow on either one to hold them up. She wore a pink dress that fell to her knees, with white socks and shoes. She was frowning to herself, head tilting a little as she watched the boy in front of her.
"I wanna go home." Jughead mumbled sulkily after a moment, letting his head lean back against the wall as he scowled.
"My mommy says that school's fun. Do you not think it's fun?" The girl furrowed her eyebrows, still stood in front of him as she spoke, her hands fisting at the material of her dress.
"No. I don't like it. There's no cars." He muttered, dropping the apple and crossing his arms.
Though at his words the girl gasped, a wide smile reaching her features as she looked down at him. "Yes there is! Here I'll show you!" Reaching down she gently grabbed his hand with her own, carefully pulling him up to stand before tugging him across the room to where other toy boxes were, giggling as she did so.
"There's cars in there!" She happily pointed to a blue box, and after kneeling down beside it and taking off the lid, she was right. Inside the box was cars.
Jughead smiled, no grinned, at the girl as he took a car out from the box, his teary smile showing his appreciation for her. She was nice, and she knew where the cars were. He liked her
"Thank you..." He trailed off when realising he didn't know her name, biting his lip for a moment as he blushed a little.
"Oh! I'm Betty! Betty Cooper!" She introduced happily, holding a hand out towards him.
"Jughead Jones." He took her hand with his own and shook hers gently, sparks shooting up from his fingertips all the way to his heart. This girl was special, he just knew it.

The next time Jughead fell in love with Betty was a few years later, at her tenth birthday party. Himself, Archie, and Betty were all best friends together, so of course Jughead had gone to celebrate with his friend.
Betty was the youngest of the trio, so Jughead and Archie were already ten come Betty's birthday, though she was the only one who had a party to celebrate it.
The party itself had gone pretty well. Betty, Jughead, Archie, and a handful of her other friends had all eaten sandwiches and had juice boxes when they got there, before they all went to play some party games and listen to some music. As the party was nearing the end, people had started to leave, until it was just Jughead and Betty left. Archie, whilst living just opposite the street from Betty, had to go for dinner - and Jughead's dad was coming to pick him up so he had until he got there.
