Betty sighed as she leaned back into the porch seat, a frown plastered over her lips as she watched the raindrops cause ripples in one of the many puddles scattered across the dirt path in front of the log cabin that she was sat outside of.
After the latest traumas to happen in Riverdale regarding TBK and the missing girls, Jughead had offered to take Betty out of town for a week, just them two. They had only been dating again for two months, give or take, but it was like they had been for much longer. It was different this time around, but it was stronger after everything from high school had been talked over.
Even after they had spoken through their relationship and they were together again, it took another few weeks before Betty could tell him about TBK and what had happened. It was a long conversation that lasted hours through tears and a whole box of tissues and many many kisses. Eventually she got it all out, though, and he understood her trauma. And once she had dealt with TBK for the second time it was clear that she needed some time away from Riverdale; it was all too much.
Betty smiled as she remembered Jughead telling her about the cabin that he stayed at to finish his novel. It was cliché, even he knew that his tortured writer aesthetic had maybe gone too far, but it was perfect for them to just get away for a while. Just themselves, a small cozy cabin, and nature.
Though now the rain was there too.
Betty was still pouting when she heard the creak of the screen door behind her as Jughead pushed it open, stepping outside with a warm mug in each hand. He didn't seem fussed by the rain as he took a seat beside Betty, handing her the pink mug he bought her at the gift shop in town before he sat himself on the bench beside her.
"Can you believe it?" Betty mumbled with a huff, pausing to sip at the delicious tea (nobody perfected her drink of choice like Jughead) before she slumped against him so her cheek was against his bare shoulder, spare a few inches of his white tank top strap. "It's raining."
"I can see that." Jughead replied, clearly unbothered as he wrapped his spare arm around Betty's body to pull her closer against himself.
"Now we can't go on that hike we were going to do today. It'll be too muddy." Betty pouted into her mug as she took the next sip of the sweet liquid as she curled her legs underneath her thighs on the bench to get more comfortable.
"So?" Jughead turned his head to plant a kiss against her hairline, where her baby hairs were sticking up due to the humid and muggy mid-August weather making her hair frizzy. "Staying here all day will be nice too. I distinctly remember you being extremely eager to stay in bed this morning doing something else-"
"Jug." Betty groaned and reached up to lightly smack his chest, feeling his body shake with a chuckle a moment after.
"Just saying," She could hear the grin in his words as he spoke, though smiled softly and sipped from her drink again at the next kiss to her head. "We can put off the hike 'till tomorrow. I have all I need right here." He squeezed her hip gently and she smiled fondly into the rim of her mug as she cuddled up more against his side.
"Maybe the rain isn't so bad after all." Betty mused as she lifted her cup back down to rest on her knee, the shiny new engagement ring on her finger causing a quiet dink sound as it hit the porcelain of the mug.
"Maybe not." Jughead nodded in response, tipping his head back as he finished the rest of his drink before he put his mug down so he could wrap both of his arms around his fiancée, his lips lingering against her head as he held her close to himself, the quiet pitter-patter of rain a soothing ambiance to their comfortable silence as they cuddled together on the bench.
