—————————————————————Nandini ran down to Manik as soon as Nyonika left. But when she saw Manik, she was shocked to see him and very scared to approach him. He was shivering with anger. She could see his jaw and his fists clenched tightly and his eyes blood red. She realised that she had never seen him this angry ever before. But she knew she couldn't leave him alone. She slowly went towards him and put her hand on his shoulder very lightly and called out to him softly.
Nandini - Manik...
Manik immediately shut his eyes tight trying to control his anger. He didn't want to lash out at Nandini and he knew that she would tell him something he didn't want to hear right now. Besides, these were a few things Nandini could never understand about his life. Not because she was incapable, but because this was something she wouldn't be able to relate to at all.
Manik - Please leave me alone Nandini.
Nandini - But Manik...
Manik - Nandini please! I don't want to hurt you. JUST LET ME BE.
Nandini realised that maybe he needed some space. She knew that he would come to her as soon as his head was clear. And pushing him to talk right now would prove to be of no good anyway.
Nandini - Okay. Take all the space you need. But just remember, I'm right here for you. Aur sirf ek promise karoge? (Will you promise me one thing?) Please don't hurt yourself. Please? Mere liye? (For me?)
Manik said nothing but just nodded slightly. She tiptoed on her toes and gave him a light peck on his lips and left to go back to her own house praying to her Ayyappa that Manik doesn't hurt himself and strives through this.
As soon as Nandini left, Manik ran up to his room and locked the door. He was so angry that he started throwing all possible things he could reach. He broke the bedside lamps, a few photo frames, pulled out the bed sheets, threw away the duvet and the pillows and even pulled down the curtains. He had not felt this angry in the last couple of years. Ever since Nandini had entered his life, she had started making him believe that he was a normal guy who could lead a normal life. She had made him believe that he deserved the love and happiness like everyone else in the world. He had even started believing her and thought that his dark days were behind him and the only thing he had to look forward to was a normal and a happy life. But how the hell could he forget that he was NOT a normal guy. He could never have a normal life. His roots and his background would never leave him alone and he had to carry the baggage of being a Malhotra no matter what he did. He was a fool when he thought he could pursue business on his own and make an identity for himself, when the fact of the matter was that he could get a job nowhere but in Malhotra Industries and could never do anything without his parents' help.
There were so many times in his life when he had felt that his roots were like shackles in his arms and feet. And that's one of the reasons why he had started acting out and bullying everyone around him. Because that's the only time he felt like he could do what he wanted and feel powerful in return. But Nandini had changed everything for him. She had made him feel free, loved and strong for who he was. She made him realise that he had wings and he could fly as high as he wanted. But little did she know that his wings had been cut off a long time ago.
