"Police scanner said it should be right about," Cas stopped the car in front of the car wreckage, "here."
A car flipped upside down along with dozens of members of the police stood in front of them. Something definitely happened here. Another ghost, just as Zed thought.
"Well, you might want to keep the car running, mate." John said.
Jade hummed in agreement. The thought of having to talk to the police was still unnerving. And if they figure out she's wanted or presumed missing, a quick escape will very much be needed.
Chas glanced at John. "What are you gonna use? The Interpol bit? Paranormal division?"
Jade couldn't figure out if he was being serious or cracking a joke. Are those seriously fake identities that John used to find out information at crime scenes?
She couldn't decide if it was brilliant or ludicrous.
"I thought I'd just wipe his mind." John replied.
It's been a while since he's done anything slightly more risky. Wiping someone's mind in public wasn't his best idea but it sounded like a fun one, at least.
"How on Earth did you two get by without us for this long," Jade turned to Zed, "this time it's your turn to work some magic."
Zed grinned at her friend before climbing out of the car. Living together on the road meant coming up with tricks together. The boys don't have any clue how many of them they have up their sleeves.
The brunette ran up to the cop in a panic, rambling about her sister not coming home and being out on the road. Her friend hid a proud smirk at her acting skills. If this whole hunting demons thing doesn't work out then she knows where to apply for a job.
After the cop explaining her sister was fine because the person who died was a man, John stepped in. He pretended to comfort Zed and tell her that her sister probably just forgot to charge her phone.
Jade and Chas exchanged impressed looks. Those two would make one hell a television duo if the opportunity ever presented itself.
"That poor man. What happened to him?" Zed asked.
The way she was able to charm her way into getting answers was impressive. And slightly concerning. It would worry Jade more if she didn't know her friend's good heart.
"It's hard to say. The EMTs pulled the driver out of the wreck, and kept asking about a hitchhiker. 'Where's Philip?' There was no around. Driver died in the ambo. Third time in three weeks I've had to babysit an accident around this tree."
You'd think they'd warn people about it or put up some kind of sign, Jade thought. Not that it would stop a ghost but the police could at least pretend to care.
John hummed. "Well, that's strange. It's not a blind corner, and the road's in good condition."
A police car arrived with its sirens. It honked at the mysterious strangers with knowledge of the occult and one of its members immediately stepped back.
"Well, Jim Corrigan. You're gonna wanna hear this." John mumbled after seeing the familiar face.
However, Jade noted that the police officer didn't seem like he was in a friendly mood. She was proven right when he pointed at John while approaching him with urgency.
"You're under arrest!"
"What the bloody hell for?"
Zed noticed her friend tensing up at the exchange and put a hand on her elbow. It seemed to snap her out of her anxiety for a split second. The feel of Zed's hand helped reassure her but she still felt on edge.
