"What do you mean John's possessed?" Jade asked in disbelief.

Zed shrugged from her seat next to Jade on the plane. They were bound for Mexico. After all his talk about Chas and him being enough to face whatever problem Anne Marie had, it turns out that things still went wrong.

Horribly so, if it involved an exorcist being possessed instead of getting rid of the demon.

"According to Chas, Anne Marie shot him to give her enough time to save the babies from a creature. John was dying so he summoned a demon that healed him and enabled him to escape certain death." Zed explained.

Jade's anger burned bright inside her. For Anne Marie who betrayed John, for John who was stupid enough to put himself in that situation.

The sound of luggage rustling alerted Jade that she was accidentally making it move. She dug her nails into her armrest in an attempt to calm down. The shaking stopped and everyone assumed it was turbulence.

"But now he's faced with an eternity of being possessed or one of us putting him down. That's equally bad!" Jade argued.

Zed sighed. "That's John Constantine."

She watched her friend shake her head before leaning back in her seat. This plane ride wasn't the best place to be having this conversation, but it's not like they had a choice.

"And what did you say happened at the mill? Why couldn't I come by?" Jade asked.

Seeing a dozen missed calls from Zed and texts warning her not to go anywhere near the safe house that John told them not to leave. She did break that rule but it was for the best, apparently.

"The people that are after me? Well, they found me."

Zed's words instantly made Jade sit up straight in her seat. Her heart skipped a beat as she found herself scanning Zed for any injuries. She didn't go into the specifics over text which worried her even then.

"Are you okay?" Jade asked.

Zed swallowed a lump in her throat and nodded. "Yeah, I was able to fight them off but it's not safe for either of us to go back there at the moment."

Her father's followers could be there waiting in ambush. Or watching the roads in case she comes back. It's not a chance she's willing to take.

"Jesus, I went to go see one movie and everything's falling apart." Jade mumbled to herself.

She didn't bother asking Zed more about her attackers. Since day one, it was clear she didn't want to talk about it. Jade did try multiple times before giving up.

Zed will tell her when she's ready. Whenever that is.

"Hey, this isn't on you," Zed said, "I'm kind of glad you weren't there to see it."

If they knew about Jade, they might've tried to take her, too. That was one of her worst nightmares. Ending up with her father again, but also dragging her loved ones into that mess.

"We're supposed to have each other's backs."

"We do. I promise."

A sigh left Jade's mouth as she once again felt useless. Her friend needed her and she wasn't there. The one time her powers might've come in handy. First she couldn't help John, now Zed?

It wasn't a nice feeling. But maybe she could make a difference now. They'll go to Mexico, fix John and figure out how to keep safe Zed from her attackers.

"Let's go exorcize an exorcist, I guess."

Chas, Zed and Jade made their way into the church. It was Zed's idea to seek out Anne Marie. She was the only one who could find John in time. Without her, they'll never be able to stop what's coming for him.
