LISA'S POV
I woke up today feeling refreshed as fuck. For once, it felt like I actually had energy. I happily got ready, ignoring my mom's constant yelling for booze, and headed out the door to my old car.
When I got to school, I almost skipped my first class but I didn't. Unlike most days, I actually made it through my first few classes with ease. And then it was time for chemistry.
I got to class early today earlier than Jennie, even. When she walked into the classroom with Jisoo, her eyes widened in surprise to see me already sitting there, waiting.
"Good luck, love," I said with a wink as she passed by me.
Mrs. Jeon wasted no time handing out the test. I got started right away, and for the first time, I actually understood what the questions were asking me.
I felt so damn happy bubbling in every answer instead of leaving them blank like I usually did. Of course, Jennie and Jisoo finished before me, but this time, I wasn't the last one to turn my paper in. That alone felt like a victory.
When I headed out of the classroom, Mrs. Jeon gave me a proud smile. Jennie was waiting for me just outside.
"How do you think you did?" she asked, her eyes full of curiosity.
I didn't even answer her question. Instead, I immediately wrapped her in a hug.
"I don't know what this means," she whispered softly.
"It means I think I did well," I said with all the truth in my heart, "and that I am so incredibly grateful you came into my life."
I could feel her stiffen in shock at my words, but I only hugged her tighter, not wanting to let go.
We stayed like that for a few seconds before someone cleared their throat.
We turned and saw Jisoo, smirking like the devil herself.
"So... you guys have gotten close pretty fast these last few weeks," she teased.
Before I could say anything, Jennie sneezed. Her eyes widened in horror.
"If I get sick, I'm going to blame you!" she snapped.
"Why me?" I asked defensively.
"You made me jump in the pool!" she argued.
"No, no, no! that was all you, love. You jumped in with all your clothes," I reminded her, laughing.
"What the fuck did I miss?" Jisoo squealed.
"Everything," I said at the same time Jennie shouted, "Nothing!"
I chuckled and added, "I'll just let you explain what happened last night." With that, I walked away, grinning at the sound of Jisoo practically shaking Jennie, demanding answers.
The next day, when I got to school and headed to chemistry class, I immediately looked around for Jennie. But she wasn't there.
My chest sank.
Where is she?
I noticed Jisoo sitting in her usual seat, so I walked over.
"She got sick last night," Jisoo explained, already smirking like she knew I'd ask.
"She told me to tell you she's blaming all her expenses on you." She chuckled.
"Oh my gosh, I feel like shit. It's my fault, I wanted to go swimming," I said, guilt hitting me like a punch to the stomach.
"Hey, relax. Jennie's not actually blaming you for anything," Jisoo reassured me. "She told me she wanted to prove you wrong that day by jumping in. And between you and me... she likes it when you challenge her."
I tried to laugh, but the guilt still lingered heavy in my chest. Jisoo must've noticed because she leaned closer.
"You could do me a favor and check up on her after school. I can't, I've got a club meeting today," she said.
"I can do that," I agreed immediately, completely forgetting I was supposed to work after school.
The entire class period, all I could think about was Jennie.
She probably feels like shit. What if she has a fever? What if she's coughing? What if she's throwing up? God, I wish this class would just hurry the hell up so I could go see her.
The day dragged on painfully slow until finally, the final bell rang. I rushed to my car and drove straight to her house.
Jisoo had told me where they kept their spare key, and I had already texted Jennie to tell her I was coming. Of course, she told me I didn't have to but when do I ever listen to her?
Once inside, I headed upstairs to her room. She was lying in bed, buried under a mountain of covers.
When I walked closer, I noticed she was asleep. I didn't want to wake her, so I just sat quietly beside her, smiling because even like this I was happy just to be near my girl.
I slowly reached out to push a strand of hair from her face, but in the process, my fingers brushed her forehead.
She was burning up.
Panic surged through me. I bolted to her bathroom, grabbed a small towel, ran it under cold water, and rushed back. I carefully placed it on her forehead, my heart racing.
Then I noticed something else, her body was completely soaked from sweat. My worry skyrocketed, and I had no choice but to wake her.
"Jennie? Please wake up. Jennie, are you okay?" I asked frantically.
She stirred, her beautiful feline eyes fluttering open. She gave me the weakest smile, but it still made my heart skip.
"Hey, Lisayah," she whispered. "I'm okay, don't worry."
"Can I get you anything?" I asked immediately.
"Umm... can you hand me the medicine on the shelf over there?" she mumbled, pointing weakly.
I grabbed it for her and handed it over. She took a sip before laying back down, staring at me with tired, heavy eyes.
"What are you looking at?" I asked nervously.
"You," she chuckled softly. "You dummy. You're beautiful."
My cheeks burned. "Okay, who are you and what have you done to my Jennie?" I teased, trying to hide my blush.
She laughed quietly and patted the spot next to her.
I laid down, and she rested her head gently on my shoulder.
"Thank you for being here," she whispered.
"Anything for you, my love," I whispered back.
Her eyes fluttered shut, and she slowly drifted to sleep. I leaned down, pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, and lay back, letting the sound of her soft breaths lull me into sleep too.
