LISA'S POV

Thankfully, my boss at work is dull and gullible enough to believe my lie about being super sick, passing out, and not being able to call in. He let me off the hook, so there was no real problem.

Unfortunately, I spent the rest of the weekend buried in shifts, unable to visit Jennie.

We texted back and forth, and she told me she was feeling better, but it still bummed me out that I couldn't spend more time with her.

The truth is, I just don't feel content unless she's by my side.

In the past few weeks, Jennie has become such a huge part of my life. I can't even imagine what it would feel like to not have her around anymore. She's just too important to me now.

Today is Monday, and I finally get to see her in class again. I spend the whole morning restless, barely paying attention, just waiting for the moment when I'll get to be near her again.

Finally, the bell rings for my first class to end, and I practically sprint to chemistry.

The second I walk through the door, my eyes automatically scan the room for her.

And there she is. Sitting in her usual seat next to Jisoo, her head tilted slightly as she chats with her best friend.

When she notices me, her entire face lights up.

Her smile! God, it's so precious, it feels like the sun warming my heart.

I smile back without hesitation and make my way straight over to her.

"Glad to see you're healthy now," I say.

"I know, I'm so glad I'm better now. No more sneezing," she replies, grinning widely.

"Why are you two so happy? Did I miss something again?" Jisoo asks, suspiciously narrowing her eyes.

Neither of us says anything, and Jisoo starts smirking knowingly.

"Hmmm, looks like something is going on between you two."

"I would like to say that," I reply with a sly smirk, "but Jennie is a bit shy when it comes to our chemistry."

Jennie instantly turns beet red, stammering for words she can't seem to form.

Jisoo and I exchange a glance, both entertained, until the teacher walks in and begins the lecture, saving Jennie from total embarrassment.

But just because class has started doesn't mean I stop teasing her. Every few minutes, I turn to her and either wink or blow her a kiss.

I swear, I've never seen a person blush so many times in one hour. It's hilarious and unbelievably adorable.

At the end of class, I hang back while Jennie and Jisoo pack up. I've already made up my mind I want to spend lunch with Jennie today.

It's taking every ounce of willpower I have not to grab her right now and kiss her until she's breathless.

The three of us begin walking out of the classroom together, but before I can say anything, I get bumped hard from the side.

"Watch where you're going, stupid," Kai sneers.

Ugh. Not this asshole again. I hate him. He's always picking on Jennie in class, and I'm beyond sick of it.

"You're the one who bumped into me. Go get your eyes checked, asshole," I snap back, continuing forward.

"You're such a bitch," he spits.

"And you're a bastard idiot," I retort without missing a beat.

"I can't believe you talk to me like that, you little shit," he growls.

"Don't ever call her that!" Jennie yells suddenly, her voice sharp and fierce. It surprises all of us.

"Oh, now you need your nerdy girlfriend fighting your battles? Wow," Kai mocks with a cruel laugh.

"Kai, shut the fuck up before I send you to the nurse," I say, my blood boiling.

"As if you could hurt me. Go back to your trailer park of a home and quit fucking old dudes for money, you fucking whore," Kai spits venomously.

That's it. I'm just about to punch him when—

BAM!

Jennie darts forward and socks him right in the eye.

Jisoo and I freeze, our mouths hanging open as Kai stumbles back, clutching his face.

"Did you just hit me, Jennie?!" he whines, his voice cracking.

"Holy shit... I'm sorry," Jennie blurts, panicked. Then, her voice hardens.

"I mean...I'm not sorry. That's what you get for saying all those horrible things to Lisa. Next time, leave us the fuck alone, asshole!"

For a few stunned seconds, the hallway is dead silent. No one moves.

Then the sound of approaching footsteps snaps me back.

"Run!" I yell.

Jisoo and Kai bolt in opposite directions while I grab Jennie's hand and pull her with me. She's still in shock, so I practically drag her down the hall until we burst out the school doors.

We collapse onto the grass outside, panting and breathless from sprinting.

"That was badass, love," I say between laughs, grinning at her.

"No, it wasn't! I just punched a dude! Oh my god, am I going to get in trouble?" she asks, wide-eyed with terror.

I giggle and scoot closer until I can wrap my arms around her. "You're not going to get in trouble. Kai isn't going to say anything. If he did, he'd get busted for the way he talked to us."

"Oh, thank God," she breathes out, finally relaxing as she lays back on the grass.

I flop down beside her, turning my head so I can look at her.

"You know, you cursed three times," I smirk.

Her eyes go wide. "Oh my gosh!"

"It was really hot," I add, smirking wider.

"Of course you would think that," she mutters, annoyed.

"Well, duh. I think you're breathtaking," I mumble without thinking.

Jennie's expression softens instantly. "You think that?"

"Of course I do," I say, leaning closer until our noses are almost touching.

"How about I give you a reward for defending me?" I whisper.

Her lips part slightly. "What's the reward?" she asks, her gaze flicking down to my mouth.

"Kiss me," I breathe.

Jennie hesitates for a second but then she leans in and presses her lips to mine.

I immediately wrap my arms around her neck, pulling her closer, deepening the kiss.

When we finally pull back for air, Jennie's eyes are wide.

"Can I... can I have another reward?" she whispers.

I smirk and crash my lips against hers again, pouring every ounce of passion I have into the kiss.

It's pure bliss. The happiest I've ever felt in my entire life.

And then—

RING!

The bell shatters the moment. Jennie jerks back, her face pale.

"Umm... we should go," she stammers before scrambling up and rushing back inside.

I stay seated on the grass, completely dazed.

What the hell just happened?

Why is she walking away from me?
