Greetings, ladies and gentlemen. I am IPS officer ACP Virat Chavan.

Throughout my career as a police officer, I've had several enemies, but there was one particular I detested the most. Let us dive into the ocean of memories to discover how I destroyed it.

It was a late Saturday night. The rain was pouring. After a tiresome day at work, I retired to the peace of my home, or so I hoped that night, because Chavan Niwas was nothing less than a criminal court those days. Yes, I'm speaking of the place I call 'home'.

I let out a sigh of relief when I found the entrance empty.
Delighted, I sped up, to the comforts of my room, or so I thought, unaware of the imminent storm.

As I entered, I found my wife looking for something in the cupboard.

"Kya dhundh rahi ho, Sai?" I had asked, removing my cap.

"Aapki UPSC ki marksheet," she had replied, distracted.

I had thought the melodrama I was exposed to everyday was making me lose my sense of hearing. Nevertheless, I had asked her, "Kya kaha tumne?"

"Vahi jo aapne suna," she had said, predictably.

"Tum sidhe tarike se kabhi baat nahi kar sakti?" I had asked, slightly annoyed.

"Jab aapko pata hai toh puchhte kyu hai?"

"Sai!"

"Virat sir!"

Suppressing a smile, I had ordered, "Sai, sidhe-sidhe jawab do. Kya dhundh rahi ho?"

"Ohho! Aap yeh Police officer wala attitude Police Station mein hi chhod kar aaya kariye. Jab dekho sawaal-jawab karte rehte hai, 'Sai, kya dhundh rhi ho?', 'Sai, sidhe tarike se baat nahi kar sakti tum?', Sai yeh, Sai woh. Main aapki koi mujrim nahi hu,"  she had said, as she once again dived into the cupboard, figuratively, of course.

"Tum baat-baat pe ladne-jhagadne par kyu aa jati ho?" I had asked her.

"Main? Main ladti hu? Abhi yeh faltu sawal kaun kar raha tha?" Sai had replied.

"Tumhe mere sawl fa-?"

"Please, baat ko aage badha ke kuch nahi milega, main aapki
UPSC ki marksheet dhundh rahi hu. Ab aap aa hi gaye hai toh bata dijiye kaha rakhi hai," she had cut across me and said.
